B+

Adcoms will not care when they see a B+ on your transcript, but if lots of people at the high school get a 4.0 and one B+ knocks you out of the top 10% in the ranking, then in that case the B+ would screw you at top colleges.

^
Usually a B+ will not matter, but if you are the only student who got a B+ in a class where everyone else got As, you are in trouble…

What about high schools on a 7-point scale (A is 93-100, B is 85-92)? My school operates like that and doesn’t give pluses or minuses.

a B+ won’t hurt you that bad. And @ Saugus, be more respectful. Not everyone here wants to go to Harvard. Harvard sucks anyways according to 3 of my cousins that went there. Honestly the prestige BS on this forum is rediculous. Do people here think that by going to HYMPS or whatever that acronym is that you will graduate making millions? Get your heads out of the water. You do not need to go to a prestigious school to be successful in life. Anyone that thinks they do can go ahead and continue being ignorant.

^ it’s the same deal. no admissions officer cares about single B. they do care a lot about rank, though, so a B is only important insofar as it hurts your rank.

I’m going to laugh when all you snobs get a B on your first semester grades in college. Are you going to go emo and cut yourselves in your rooms because a B?

Grow up for the love of God.

I RARELY got A’s in high school. I ran a B+ average. I even had incompletes on my transcript when applying to schools. My extracurriculars, scores, recommendations, writing, etc all made up for the fact that my HS grades just weren’t that spectacular.

I currently attend Barnard College, where I get nearly straight A’s. I also got into Oberlin, NYU, Brandeis, Skidmore, Clark, and Umass with significant MERIT scholarships. (Also, Smith and BU without scholarships.)

Whoever says a B+ rules you out for selective colleges is speaking a whole load of nonsense.

Also, @saugus – you are in high school, and thus know nothing about college admissions. I’d LOVE to see your teacher recommendations…I’m sure with all your grade grubbing they are simply wonderful. Good luck with Princeton – perhaps once you get to college you find a life.

Lol, this thread was ■■■■■■■ but nevertheless…
Saugus, don’t be such a dick. No, having standards doesn’t make you a snob, but thinking less of others’ standards just because they’re not the same as yours does.
Also, I’m pretty sure that schools like HPYSM, etc would much rather have a student who made a few B’s than one who, oh I don’t know, failed a class because they gave up…cough cough. Is that not what you did? And then you whined about it? I hope some of those B+ kids teach you something about intelligence wherever it is you get into school, because you seriously need a reality check.

^
Umm, read the thread before posting?

The OP was worried about a B+. He is obviously aiming at top schools. I’M the one who told him that he was alright as long as he didn’t get too many of them. No one factor will destroy an application.

And there’s nothing wrong with having a 3.0 GPA. I’m just saying- When the OP is OBVIOUSLY aiming at top schools, giving such advice is ridiculous.

You’re the dick.

@eight28
Again, I was the one who told him that he was fine. I never said the guy who goes to Temple “fails”. Honestly, Temple is not a top school and not one that the OP seems to be aiming at. Different schools suit different people.

^ You’re still a dick.

I did read the thread. If that was all you had said in the thread, I wouldn’t have called you a dick. Seriously.

ChoklitRain: this isn’t meant to be offensive, but what ethnicity are you?

^^
Nope, that it essentially what I said before it was blown out of proportion by certain insecure posters on here.

Yes, I did insult the Temple guy eventually, but he was asking for it.

Wait, Saugus, what did you say to ChoklitRain? No offense, but if you’re an ORM, it’s easier to get in. Everyone knows it (affirmative action ftw). But if you’re a URM (as am I), it’s absolutely ridic.

^
I didn’t say anything directed at him other than me not caring about the opinions of those who are patently wrong or jealous.

I’m not sure if you were joking, but you have it backwards.

white male from NJ, which puts me in just about the most competitive demographic possible for wharton

Ha, Saugus, there was a bit of sarcasm there.

Well, then, ChoklitRain, congratulations (your name was a little misleading). Do you mind sharing your stats, so I can have a little guidance? I know I shouldn’t be freaking out at this moment in time, but I just can’t help it. The Bs are so ugly when I look at my transcript. Did you family have any ties to Wharton?

3.9 gpa at top nyc private, near perfect SAT, perfect APs and subject tests, and legacy.

No one is jealous of you. You are a high school kid with a D on his transcript, a poor attitude, and zero college acceptances as of now.

Well, ChoklitRain, with those awesome stats, you’re not exactly a normal applicant, are you?

I have all of y’all beat my GPA is a 5…out of 11.
