BA Theater

My D was accepted to LMU’s BA Theater program and I would love to hear more about it. We are going to visit in a couple of weeks so I’m sure we’ll learn more then but in the meantime hearing from other already in the program would be great! Can’t find much here on CC. She has four BFA Acting offers as well so she may go that route instead…

My daughter is a junior at LMU, majoring in dance and minoring in theatre. As you know there is a big difference between a BA and a BFA. At LMU she will be required to take many core classes, she will receive a well rounded education however, her vocational training will not be as intense as it is for a BFA. We have had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Wetmore, the theatre department chair, on several occasions, he is bright, involved, and very caring about the future of the department’s students. He is an excellent teacher and has been a mentor to our daughter who plans to pursue a career in film and television. This is LA so while there is a lot of theatre produced by the department many students are also interested in film and TV. If you or your daughter have any specific questions I am happy to try and answer them. Also, Kevin, is very accessible, you can write him as well. Good luck to your daughter on her decision.

@sewingmom thank you…just saw this! We sat down with Kevin on Wednesday and he spent an hour and a half with us. I was very impressed with him and the school. The main problem is they gave us no money. We appealed and were told they have no more money to give…very disappointing. We are going to make the final decision in the next few days.

Here is a recent article about LMU’s study abroad theater program

Hi! i’m just curious (for the parents of those attending LMU) what the opportunities are like for LMU’s theatre department and like the outside opportunities for acting on camera. Thanks!

@kalpallol My D just started there so it’s still early but she was cast in the lead for their Fall musical. They are also putting on a drama in the Fall. And this is exciting…Helen Mirren is scheduled to come to campus and speak with the students this week! As far as outside opportunities…I’m not quite sure what you mean. My daughter will be auditioning for parts outside of school but she has an agent and has been doing that for the past couple of years. I don’t believe the school would offer much outside of their own productions. So far she is really enjoying it and loves her acting class especially.
