Babson vs BC Carrol School of Managment

My friend got accept Early Action to both Babson and BC Business school. She really wants to go into business, and she is torn between the two. To add another twist, she was accepted to Babson as Presidential Scholar, and will recieve half-tution. Money is not a factor, but she is really conflicted between the two. Also, if she gets accepted into Dartmouth in the spring, for a career in business, should she choose Babson or BC over Dartmouth?

Thanks for your help!

bump 10char

If money is not a criterea then....BC is MUCH better in all possible ways than Babson...although Babson does have a better entrepreneurship program but for a better overall business education and better job opportunities BC is the clear frontrunner
If she gets into Dartmouth however none of these schools stand a chance

thanks, any one else have opinions, much appreciated

Yeah Dartmouth is one of the top 7 schools in the country (after HYPSMW) when it comes to business recruiting. Its hands down better than these two.

I would take Dartmouth over those 2 schools any day... especially for business. If she doesn't get into Dartmouth, then BC would be next in line.

Dartmouth over BC and Babson, if she can handle it.

First, I believe that Babson is better than Boston College. This is Babson's specialty! This is particularly true for entrepreneurship.

Second, Yes, overall, Dartmouth is a better, more reknown school. However, if she is interested in entrepreneurship and NOT geting a job, Babson would be the better education for this.

Finally, based on reviewing Dartmouth's undergraduate majors, you can't major in business as an undergrad there. See:Dartmouth - Academics & Research - Undergraduate Majors

Yea, she would have to major in Econ a Dartmouth, and she is also taking that into consideration as well. Any more opinions, no one even brought he scholarship into question, she thinks it may "look good"

Destined, Dartmouth won't give any merit scholarships. They will only give need based. You probably will get some merit aid at either BC or Babson, although, frankly, I prefer Bentley to Babson, which have similar programs but different cultures.

Babson tends to be more cut throat, while Bentley kids and the school tends to be more accommodating and cooperative.

If your friend is interested in entrepreneurship Babson is by far the best. They've been ranked #1 in entrepreneurship for past 15 yrs (News&World Report) and ranked #1 in the world according to the financial times. No one really compares. In general business, all about the same; Dartmouth has excellent masters program but not as strong undergrad.

Dartmouth > BC > Babson.

Babson does have good programs, don't get me wrong. But in terms of overall education, name recognition, and social life, BC and Dartmouth win by a longshot.

hmm she is thinking BC now, thanks for the advice

That's actually not true at all lookingintheNE. Dartmouth recruiting is probably #7 in the country after Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Wharton, and MIT Sloan, at the same level as Yale, and slightly above places like NYU Stern and Michigan Ross. Majoring in econ at a top 10 school is the best pre-business you can get.

When you want elite recruiting a BBA (business undergrad degree) only really helps if you are going into a very specialized field (like advertising or marketing). If you want to go to Wall Street, get an MBA, go into venture capital, or go into consulting Dartmouth (and HYPS, etc) wins by a longshot.

I never understand #1 for entrepreneurship? I think it doesn't mean anything and if you look at the number of companies started by Dartmouth alums that have succeeded vs. Babson alums, Dartmouth wins by a mile.

Slipper, I don't have statistics on the number of start up companies from Dartmouth vs. Babson alumni, but I guess it would makes sense that you are correct because Dartmouth is MUCH older than Babson. What would be more interesting as a statistic is how many start up companies came from each school's alumni as compared to the number of students graduated from those schools over the last 15 years or so. This would also include folks that start up their own accounting practices and consulting firms. I would bet Babson would beat out Dartmouth.

Babson does a hell of a job with business...namely entrepreneurial work. It may end up being the best choice from that perspective.
