Hi everyone! I'm a rising senior trying to figure out a list of colleges to apply to. I'm pretty sure I don't want to go to a business-only school; however, I do plan on doing something with business later in life, and figure it couldn't hurt to put 1 business school on there in case something change. I'm a female in the Boston suburbs and have heard good things about both Babson and Bentley, which are nice and local.

However, like I said, I'd only want to apply to one of them, and I'm not sure which one, since the environments are similar. Babson initially stands out to me as having more majors and potentially being more academically rigorous and better with job placement, but I'm not sure if that's an accurate impression. What have other people heard and which school do people think is better? Also, is the financial aid better at one of these schools? Because finances would be a factor.
Or, are there any other good business schools or business-intensive-but-not-solely-business-schools people recommend? The one thing is I wouldn't want them to be super selective (Babson and Bentley are both a 40%ish admit rate, so not too much tougher to get into than that).

Babson is a bit better. They are very similar, obviously being in the same neighborhood (close enough). In my opinion, off of pure research I find Babson is a bit stronger in just about most categories academically and socially than Bentley. Both are great schools, however Babson does tend to stress a little more on the business side than Bentley does. Bentley is also twice the size of Babson. When I was looking for colleges during my initial search, I crossed off Babson after a while purely based on the size given my high school is 3,000 students. Bentley was never on my list, however, which is why I might have this bias.

If you are looking around that size, check out maybe University of Richmond. I’m looking there as well and it’s a tiny bit more competitive, but it is more well rounded academically not leaning entirely to business. BU and Northeastern are also similar, less competitive than Richmond but more so than Bentley, pretty similar to Babson admissions wise. However these schools are bigger, and given that Bentley stands at 4,000 undergrad, I’m not sure exactly as to what you’re looking for in the means of location and size.

@Chardo: family can afford ~30k a year. High asset, low income. I don’t know enough to do the NPCs on my own but almost everything else has come up within range. It’s more about meeting demonstrated need.
Stats: 2190 SAT, 3.7ish unweighted, 4.5ish/5 weighted. 5 APs by end of high school. Honors in math/science/language, normal in english/history.
ECs: 4 yrs mock trial, badminton this year and next, anime club this year and next, member of local teen group that plans informative events for high schoolers and parents, Hebrew school for 4 years, work at local supermarket, volunteering on local farm this summer.

Location’s not an issue for me. Babson and Bentley were just the only 2 business-only schools I’d heard of since they’re local and pretty good. I have a bunch of other schools that have business programs on my apply list; I just wanted to choose between these 2, since they’re business-only.

If you’re pretty sure you don’t want to go to a business-only school, why even consider them? If you insist, you should also add Bryant, an hour south and commonly cross-shopped with Bentley and Babson (the Three B’s).

Some broad universities containing business, within academic range, and generally near your budget:

UMass (you probably knew that)
UConn
Binghamton
Marist
Miami (Ohio)
Ohio State
James Madison

These are all over the map, in geography and fit. What else are you looking for in a school?

I should mention you might already qualify for Alabama’s full scholarship to their honors college. If your CR+math was 1400, it’s yours. Total cost of attendance would be around $12k. If 1330, you would get 2/3 tuition, total COA about $20k.

I hadn’t heard of the Alabama scholarship before. That definitely sounds nice, and my SAT is high enough. I figure a business school will have a stronger business program and better post-graduation career opportunities than if I just did a business major at a different school. Also, I’m taking some more business courses in school next year, so if I really feel ‘called’ to that I might want to go business-only. Other schools I’m looking at are Elon, Bucknell, UMass Amherst, UMD College Park, Carnegie Mellon, the Claremont Colleges, Lehigh, Lafayette, UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Brandeis, and Rhodes. Possibly Juniata. Overall aiming for 2k-10k in suburban/rural areas.

Your list is also all over the map. Different fits for many of them, and some are too big for your preference or too expensive.

A business school does not necessarily have a stronger program or better career opportunities than a broad university. Each school stands on its own merits.

Babson is better than Bentley on all fronts. They are both much better than Alabama. I would be weary about taking on a lot of debt from any of these schools though.

There are better options that are more expensive in New England (BC, Northeastern, BU).

Both are great schools , as the many others listed in this forum. Apply to all, visit all , and see who give you best finacial package. Let them compete for YOU! Do not over value rankings vs price and where you feel comfortable. All of these schools have their own strenghts and weaknesses.
