Babson vs NYU Stern

i got into these schools, and I don't know which one to choose. can someone please sell me on either of these schools, and tell me which one will lead me to a more successful future? i know that nyu stern generally has a better reputation, but is it worth going there and paying full tuition if babson gave me a $25,000 scholarship per year?
THANK YOU!!

Stern is my dream school but I got rejected

I don’t think NYU Stern is worth paying full tuition for. How are you going to afford that? What kind of financial aid package did they offer you? Are you even going to be able to borrow that much? Remember that freshman can borrow at most $5,500 without a co-signer.

They offered me exactly that- the $5500 loan. i will figure the financial information out with my family once i decide which school i want to commit to. obviously i do not want to put my family through unnecessary financial stress if i can achieve the same in the future with a degree from babson as a degree from nyu stern…and this is what im really not sure of - if nyu is actually worth it over babson

Bump!
Is NYU stern worth the cost over babson? Any more opinions please?

You need to figure out financial information BEFORE committing to a school. It’s stupid to commit to Stern, take out huge amounts of debt and then, come your senior year, run out available credit to take on debt. OOPS! You have to drop out of Stern because you’ve maxed out your available government loans (27k) and your parents can’t take on all the debt of NYU…

So, unless you want to potentially be stuck having to drop out due to financial reasons, I suggest you examine the cost and finances BEFORE deciding anything.

As to whether it’s worth the cost or not, that would depend on how easily you can pay all that tuition. If you can’t afford it, then no, it’s obviously not worth it because you can’t do it.

We can afford nyu stern to the pon t where i will be able to graduate and keep up financially, but its not cheap nor do i know whether it is worth the extra investment in comparison to babson. How do people feel about babson?

Will Stern provide you with better recruitment opportunities during and straight out of college? Obviously, yes.

It’s up to you if those added opportunities are worth the extra cost.

Hi bowinic,

Both schools are great, but as a current Babson student I can say that the decision to come here was the best I have ever made. Our small size, hands on learning approach, close professor student interaction, and entrepreneurial spirit make it an incredible learning experience both in and out of the classroom. Although NYU is very well known, Babson is also well-established and globally known as a top business institution. Best of luck in the decision making process and feel free to respond if you have any other questions!

I have the same question, except it’s Babson vs Drexel vs Tulane for business. Can anyone give me a review or idea about Babson and it’s prestige versus these schools? Not many people know about Babson whereas Tulane and Drexel are nationally recognized.

acg71692,
Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate your information. How are the internship and employment opportunities out of Babson?

Falco635- Similarly to what I said to bowinic, although Babson is a smaller institution we are still recognized all around the world as the #1 school for entrepreneurship and a top undergraduate business school.

Bowinic- The internship and employment opportunities at Babson are incredible. Both the college and our Center for Career Development office have build solid relationships with top companies that recruit here year after year. I personally interned at Liberty Mutual and will be interning at the TJX Companies this summer, both opportunities I had access to through Babson. The majority of Babson students have multiple internships during their time as an undergraduate student and many even return as a senior with a full time job offer already.Over 99% of the graduating class of 2012 was employed or in grad school within 6 months of graduation with only a small percentage of those being enrolled in grad school.
Let me know if you have any other questions I can answer!

bowinic:

It is to your credit that you’re willing to consider family resources. You are to be commended for that.

The first, and most important question is what will the $100,000 mean to your family. You need to have a frank conversation with your parents, about what this will mean for siblings educational opportunities, grad schools, etc.

Once you speak to them, if they’re still willing to pay the freight for Stern, that’s where I would recommend going.

I have nothing bad to say about Babson. I won’t even say that you can’t get as good an education at Babson as at Stern. However, to put it bluntly, Babson is a regional school with a good reputation. Stern is one of the elite undergraduate business schools in the US. It has a much better reputation. They really are not comparable schools.

My daughter was faced with similar choices to yours (different institutions). Fortunately, we had prepared financially for college, and we were happy that she chose the school she did (the more expensive, “better” school).
