Okay, so, I've been reading a couple college admissions books lately and every single one says something along the lines that babysitting is not a suitable "job"/way to spend your summer. So, I'm wondering why? I babysit a lot, usaully with the same group of people and I've gotten to know them pretty well. Doesn't being entrusted with a child's life show more responsibility then filling sodas at the local multiplex? I'm just wondering... sorry for the rant.

hmm.........

Babysitting is the easiest nonlegitamate part time vocation on this ground.

Because there are people who take care of their younger siblings for free, and wouldn't/couldn't show that on an application.

The real reason is probably because you don't have a superior. You're pretty much free to do whatever you want while babysitting. You could be watching t.v. the entire time for all they know.

Good rant, but babysitting is all too common. Unless you run a legitimate business that has to pay its taxes and hires employees, it's nothing more than a responsibility.

So if you think you're so good at babysitting, establish your own little business, hire employees, advertise on Craigslist, and file your tax papers.

Can't I list "nannying" on my app? I make a significant amount of money ($90/week) from babysitting. Proves I'm actually making my own money and not suckling off a rich daddy's teat like most applicants.

Again, file your damn tax return for the money you earned so you can prove you actually earned your money.

You guys sit on babies? AND get paid for it?

That's just horrible.
