Bacc/MD Presentation

I am looking for alumni or previous Bacc/MD applicants to provide some insight on an often overlooked part of "formal wear": men with long hair. I usually wear a fedora, so it's never an issue (since my hair is mostly hidden and the attention is drawn towards the hat), but during the interview I would obviously not have the hat on. Is there a certain length that is the cutoff point for looking professional? I'd rather not cut most of it off; my grandfather had cancer a year back and, since his recovery, I've tried to donate to Locks of Love when I can. I apologize for the mundanity of this question, but at least it's a break from the chance me threads.

P.S. I called the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, they said that they've never been asked that question and it's up to me to determine what's professional. Thus, I've asked you. Thank you for any input, I'm a fish out of water when it comes to professional attire.

Is it long enough to pull back away from your face and tie in a band? I think the most important thing is to make sure it is squeaky clean and neat, and does not “distract” from your overall appearance. If it is of concern to you, you could mention right off the bat why you wear your hair long-“my grandfather had cancer a year back and, since his recovery, I’ve tried to donate to Locks of Love when I can”. This is a completely acceptable, and compassionate reason for your choice to grow your hair long. No one with a heart should think the worse of you after hearing you say that. Good luck with the interview!

I thought of that, but I’m afraid it will sound like a pathetic excuse or insincere. Thanks for the input. My hair curls (because of the hat) away from my eyes so a quick trim might work.

If your reason for long hair is to donate hair, then I think you should bring it up to the committee during the interview. Just remember that this is your MEDICAL school interview. So dress as well as you can.

By the way, Zulatooka, please post on your stats on http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1080294-official-usc-class-2015-bacc-md-hopefuls-3.html</a>. This is to help future Bacc MD candidates.

Which date are you interviewing?

I will be interviewing with Keck on the 2nd and with Explore USC on the 4th. I’ll be arriving at USC around midnight on the 1st (or early morning on the 2nd, depending on how late my plane arrives) so will be knocking on my host’s door around 12:30am with luggage, a sleeping bag, and a most likely bohemian appearance. This will be fun.

Zulatooka,
SC has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. You may open the door and find a student with longer hair, who speaks three languages and has a guitar in one hand. lol

Good luck on your interview.

I hope so. It’d be awesome to jam with a trilingual Fabio.

Besides, I think I am fine. I found a video of something I could do: [YouTube - The Correct Way to Style Mens Hair - Kevin Murphy](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube).

That seems both professional and keeps my hair long for Locks of Love.
