Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science Degree (?)

Is anyone familiar with Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science (BAAS) degrees?

I am planning in moving to San Antonio, TX, for work, and would like to continue my education there. Initially, I will be pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Information Assurance, and would then like to move on to either UTSA or Texas A&M San Antonio for their Information Assurance programs.

UTSA is straight-forward, and offer the BBA in Information Assurance; however, TAMU San Antonio is not. They offer a normal BBA in Information Assurance, as well as a BAAS in Information Assurance. Not being too familiar with BAAS degrees (which from what I see, are common in TX), they are designed to pull from the courses already taken during the course of a similar AAS degree. Since I will have one, this is quite interesting.

I'm not worried about school prestige, ranking, etc. Only regional accreditation, and information security program accreditation, via the NSA. All of these programs are covered. My only concern is with the BAAS degree, specifically. Is that a reputable form of degree? Do hiring managers treat that as any other bachelors degree, rather, focusing on the major.... Or do they toss those in the junk pile?

Thanks for your input!

Provided the the college or university you attend holds full regional accreditation, whether the degree you receive is a B.A., B.S., B.A.A.S., B.B.A., etc. really doesn’t matter. What matters is that it is some kind of full bachelor’s degree, the specific coursework covered in the program, and any internships or letters of recommendation you accumulate along the way. If you have concerns about hiring rates for these two programs, ask the departments and the career centers at each university.

Wishing you all the best!
