Back from 'bama

Back from our first of what I hope will be many visits. Wow, even after reading everything in this forum UA exceeded my expectations and definitely my son’s. He loved the campus and the whole concept of the Honors College. Those dorms were to die for. I think those are the nicest dorms I have seen anywhere. The facilities, the people, the stadium were amazing.

Thanks to y’all  for pointing us in the right direction, especially m2ck.

His last question was “do you think we could get tickets to go to a game in the fall”.

ldinct: if he applies early like my D did last year, they may offer him tickets to a game. D got an email about tickets to a game as an admitted student and went to the Florida International game on 9/12 with her dad. A good time was had by all ;)

Idinct, you’ll be able to get tickets to the Georgia St game for cheap (under face value). That game was just moved from Saturday to Thursday night (11/18).

I’d recommend looking to attend the Miss St game on Saturday Nov 13th. . It’s an SEC game but tickets should still be relatively easy to come by and pretty affordable (under $100 a ticket for decent seats).

Other “affordable” options would be the opener against San Jose St and the Ole Miss game (though these will be higher due to Home coming).

Tickets to the Penn St, Florida, and auburn games will be expensive but they’ll be great games to attend if money isn’t an object.

I also just returned from a visit to Alabama, and I had the same wonderful feelings toward it as you. We didn’t get to see any dorms, so it’s great to hear that you were pleased with them.

Regina…did you take an official tour?

Yes, I did. We didn’t even drive or walk past the dorms, besides the apartments that you would pass after you leave the gym and drive by the pool. Are dorms normally seen during a tour?

Typically you don’t go inside dorms during a campus tour, but if you ask, you can visit them after.

Usually, the tour bus drives by Riverside housing and Lakeside (both are honors). You may not have realized that you were driving by them. I think the bus also drives by Tutwiler.

Should you return to Alabama and your student qualifies for a spot in the Honors College, you may set up a tour with one of the ambassadors. Those students (my son is an ambassador) often take prospective students to see a dorm.

it is really not completely necessary to see the inside of the honors dorms. we did, but it was kind of a pain to do so. IIRC it took us a while to find the right place.

just looking at them online gives a pretty good impression. plenty of info there.
