I hear The University sent out an email re. football tickets

Any current students care to share what it says? Son hasn’t received one yet.

Incoming students and transfers will still have the ability to purchase half-season packages on June 1. Current students will have the opportunity to purchase ticket packages in the middle of June with a date assigned based on credits earned at UA (not AP or transfer credits). Before that however, current students will need to request the ability to buy tickets, even though they might not end up being able to buy tickets. Tickets will be allocated based on the proportion of students in each credit level applying for tickets.

Thanks.

Sounds like a good plan. Spread out the buying times so there isn’t the overload on the servers slowing everything down. Having 3 or 4 thousand trying to buy tickets at once is a lot easier than having 20 thousand trying to buy at once.

Any idea on the how the packages are broken up for the freshman? I’m assuming Penn St would be in one and Florida will be in the other. Question is which of those packages will get auburn.

The Auburn game gets played the day after Thanksgiving (on a Friday), so unless the student stays in town for Thanksgiving, it’s a hard game for some students to attend.

Which dorms stay open over Thanksgiving weekend? Do all of them? Some of them?

how hard (and how expensive) is it to get tickets for a game … like if we parents wanted to make a trip for the weekend to visit kid and see a game?

I haven’t seen anything yet on how the games will be split into packages. Last year, it was an equal mix of games, IMHO. The Iron Bowl will probably not be a part of either package and will instead be an additional option.

Last year, all the dorms were open for Thanksgiving though dining services and transportation were closed. Because the Iron Bowl was in Auburn, campus was very empty apart from some RA’s, international students, and the few students who didn’t go home, myself included. While it was odd, it was cool to have the campus all to myself. I bet more people will be staying in t-town this year since the Iron Bowl will be a home game.

Student tickets should be $5 per game plus a couple bucks in fees. Family Weekend tickets will be easiest to get as UA reserves them. IIRC, they were $40-$45 plus fees. Other games will probably have to be bought from a private party. Even without a ticket, you could still tailgate. Note that family weekend seats are not in or probably ever near the student section. As the student section is blocked off from the rest of the stadium, you will probably not be able to see your student during the game if they are using their student ticket. Also take into account that hotels are not cheap during football weekends (normally $150+/night plus tax). Really though, the cost is worth it just for the experience. If you do go to a game, I suggest wearing crimson and/or houndstooth.

i wasn’t expecting to sit with my student at the game … just going for a visit and also seeing a game. lord knows my student wouldn’t want to attend a football game with me!!

do you know when family weekend is??

Mike, It depends on which game you want to attend as far as ticket prices. For the most part all the games are sold out but there might be a few tickets to the Ga State game for public sale.

You should however be able to find decent prices ($150 a pair for decent lower level seats) for the San Jose St, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Miss St games as well, either on ebay or stub hub. Penn St, Florida, and auburn tickets will be both hard to get and expensive($300 a pair for poor upper deck seats).

Hotel rooms are tough to come by and all the hotels jack their rates up for game weekends. Most hotels sell out a year ahead of time but a few rooms come open as the game approaches.

Check out the schedule and pick a game or two you’d like to attend. Let me know and I can help you look for tickets if you want. I’m a member of a Bama athletics site that has a ticket exchange board where people are always selling tickets. And here’s a site I use to check hotel availability and prices near The University.

i will get back with you.

can students get an extra student ticket for a visiting student (like boyfriend or bff from high school?)

As a season ticket holder, I can share what I know about ticket prices. For the big games, or SEC games, you can pay anywhere from face value of ticket (45-70, to a couple of hundred dollars, or more if you have the best seats in the house). For the patsy games, you could possibly buy a ticket for below face value, or a little more. Depends on when you want to buy the ticket. If you are willing to wait till kickoff, you can prob get tickets for a little less than or at face value. If you want assurance ahead of time, expect to pay a little more, even for the patsy games. Also, if you want lower bowl tickets, expect to pay a bit more, sometimes, a lot more. Every seat in Bryant Denny has good sightlines, due to its shape, but still, the lower bowl has the best seats. Every seller has different needs, so check out stubhub.com or bamamag.com, and look for the range of ticket prices. You can often get a deal by buying early on, or waiting till the last minute.

I usually only go to two to three games a year, and thus sell the rest of the tickets. My seats are in the middle row of the East Upper Deck, and have good sightlines around the 10-20 yardline. So Im not usually able to make much profit off of my tickets, except for a big SEC game, and even then, I usually only sell them for around 80-100 each. For those that decry scalping, keep in mind that season ticket holders must pay for the ability to purchase the set of season tickets, so we have to charge at least a little more to recoup our expenses. Once I even gave away tickets to a guy at a gas station since my friend fell ill and we had to head back to Atlanta. But its nice to make a little profit too when I cant make it to Tuscaloosa in the fall.

Students can upgrade a student ticket to a student guest ticket by going to Coleman Coliseum ticket window during the week of the game and paying the difference between the $5 student cost and the regular face value cost (anywhere from $45 to $85 depending on the game). A paper ticket will then be issued.

A student guest ticket gets you into the student section without having to show your act card.

BTW to correct my previous post. The Arkansas game is away this year not at home.

Atlanta.

I just got a letter from Tide Pride saying I was finally coming off the waiting list. I’ve been on there for almost 4 years. Thank God for the recent expansion. The letter said they have 16,000 on the waiting list and only 2,000 of the new seats are going to Tide Pride. Needless to say I was ecstatic when I got the letter.

Family Weekend is the first weekend in September. The game against San Jose State. Keep checking the parent site on UA to see when tickets, etc. for that weekend will be on sale.

Family weekend info: [Family Weekend](http://parents.ua.edu/familyweekend/)

You can also sign up there for emails from the parents association.

Last year, it was an equal mix of games, IMHO. The Iron Bowl will probably not be a part of either package and will instead be an additional option.

Actually, last year it was one package with 3 games and one package with 4 games.

Package A - $15
Florida International
Arkansas
LSU

Package B - $20
North Texas
South Carolina
Tennessee
Tennessee-Chattanooga

In the previous year that Auburn was a home game, it wasn’t in either package.

*can students get an extra student ticket for a visiting student (like boyfriend or bff from high school?) *

It’s not easy, but it can be done with some finagling. Technically, each student can only possess one student ticket, but with some odd tricks, they can sometimes get one for a friend.

Just tried to register for family weekend but says you have to wait until June 1st. Just in case someone is interested… If you go to the schedule of events and you want to do the riverboat cruise, 2 of the 3 times are already booked. They only have the 10pm slot left open. Better print out registration form and mail it in if you want to do that event…

m2ck, I was thinking equal in terms of team difficulty, with 7 home games, it was hard to split up the season perfectly in half.

I remember reading that converting a student ticket to a guest ticket counts as one of our 3 strikes before we can’t by tickets for the next year, but I can’t see how the system would allow a student to get multiple student tickets on their action card in order to convert them anyway.

The riverboat cruise is very fun and I highly recommend it. It looks like however that the 2009 Family Weekend info is still up, so I don’t know if any of the spots for 2010 are even for sale yet. I haven’t heard anything yet about the family weekend concert, but that is sometimes the same day.

what does the family weekend concert typically consist of?

Will we be the only bad parents not attending Family Weekend?
One of other son’s three home marching band games is that weekend. Also, quite frankly, not sure I see the logic in spending big $ to get us all there after having just dropped him off a month earlier.
There must be other OOS parents missing this - or am I just an awful mom?
