I personally think it's ridiculous.
If I had to come up with some pros though, I guess, um, it forces people to build arm muscles since they would then have to carry their books in their arms. It makes each person have less actual depth and overall mass, i suppose, since they would no longer have backpacks and whatnot.
Idk I can't even come up with any serious pros.

well according to MY school, it's a good policy since it prevents intruders/terrorists from bringing in bombs

BAHAHA. Okay, well are they banning purses? and, ummm, fanny packs? And any other thing that could conceivable carry a bomb inside it? Such as the human body? Uhhhh

purses no. b/c sometimes girls need to have their "stuff" in there for girl purposes.

i think totes are fine tho it's ridiculous

Hmmm, you could probably smuggle weapons and the like in backpacks, that could be one.

An improperly worn or overly heavy back pack can cause back problems over time (both pain and posture).

A heavy pack might affect your balance and increase your likelihood of falling...

Really bulky backpacks can be used as tools to beat fellow students to death by turning rapidly?

Yes, let's ban pencils as well, because you can kill someone with one of those! And wait, jackets are really dangerous too, you could strangle somebody with one! Oh, all clothes! Must be banned! Danger to society!
Oh, let's ban people who have bad balance naturally, too. 'Cause if somebody falls down that's a serious emergency... and ban slouching! Everyone must wear a back brace - because what if somebody gets a back problem!!!!?!?? Actually, we're just going to have to shut down schools, they really are just so dangerous.. anyone could have a weapon/bomb/whatever there! Just like everywhere else!!!!!!!
OMGOMGOMGO I'll never let my kids out of the house!

Did my 21 capital letters offend anyone?

XD My school allows backpacks (thank goodness) but the middle school didn't because of space issues or something like that...according to them, backpacks were too big and they were a danger in classrooms, being all over the floor. I'm not really sure. The middle school is kind of silly.

Ha!
I remember, a long time ago, reading about some five or six year old girl who was sharpening her pencil, tripped, and stabbed the pencil in her chest.
Lesson: don't sharpen your pencil to a stab-quality point.

^ That's why I stick with pens. :)
I actually hate normal wooden pencils. Mechanical pencils are cutting it.

I don't know TRUE pros to the backpack argument. I think it's dumb and worthless.

Public school I go to.

No backpacks, and no shorts are allowed. They search your backpack unless it is a clear approved backpack. You can bring it to school at 7:15, and at 1:45 you can take it out of your locker.

wow thats ridiculous

Honestly, if a kid really wanted to bomb a school, he wouldn't let a petty backpack policy stop him.
