I'm going to be applying to Barnard Early Decision for Fall 2013...and I'm afraid one bad AP score will break it.

Yesterday morning, when I checked the AP website, I received a 5 on AP English Language and then an ugly 3 on my AP US History exam. Last year (thankfully) I got a 5 on AP Art History. So I'd be handing in 2 5's and a 3.

What's terrible is that I worked my a** off for a 700 on the subject test and a 90 in the class--it's one of the hardest classes offered at my school. And even worse, the teacher for the course is writing one of my college recommendations. Most students in my grade received 4's and 5's, as do most students who take the class. I'm not that great at American History (I'm more of a world history person), either. Hiding the score might seem even more sketchy than just submitting it, and the cost may not be worth it.

I'm starting to see this as a huge detriment to my application in Barnard's admission process.

I have a 2040 SAT (670 reading, 620 math, 750 writing), and a 93.4 GPA UW, 95.4 W. I will be submitting my US History SAT II and another one in Lit (which I plan to retake). My activities are very focused--I have leadership positions in at least two of them--and I'm counting on strong essays. I'm even planning to do an interview AND I've been on a campus tour and went to an information session. I really want to attend!

Will this "situation" kill my chances in applying to the school?
