bad AP scores?

This is possibly the most disappointing day of my life, because AP scores just came out. These are my scores:

Eng Lang - 4 (Very very shocking, since I have possibly the toughest teacher in the universe and I scraped by with an A)
Environmental Science - 3 (A self-study fail)
Calc AB - 5
Chem - 5 (Very surprised, since I felt like I failed)
US Gov - 5

And I had took three tests sophomore year (last year) and scored all 5's - Physics B, US History, and Chinese.

Obviously, I did so much better sophomore year...I'm so afraid to tell my parents cause they'll be ****ed. BUt I'm mostly surprised and disappointed at myself :'( When I started high school, I wanted to get the Nat AP Scholar award, but I can't anymore cause of my environmental science 3. And my Eng Lang score is a shocker...do I still have a chance at competitive colleges like HYP based on those scores? And if I apply, should I submit those scores at all? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Oh I made a mistake. It’s not supposed to be Chem, it’s supposed to be Physics C Mechanics…I just needed to vent this out so I typed super fast and tricked myself into thinking that I took Chem…this is what Collegeboard does to you :(

Those are not bad scores by any means. You have 6 5’s. If you don’t get into a top college, your AP scores will not be the reason. They really don’t pay that much attention to AP scores in the first place. If you got an A in the class an a 2 on the test it might look bad because it could indicate grade inflation. Otherwise, you got 5’s and one 4 on your AP tests. They’re not going to look at that 4 and think it’s a horrible score or anything like that. They’ll see your scores and realize you’re highly capable of doing college level work. Thats it. The 4 in English, which was probably really close to a 5 in the first place, is not a big deal. And neither is the apes score. You put in the effort to self-study it to see how it would go, and you got a 3, which btw is passing. I can’t imagine them looking at that negatively at all. And I’m sure you can get at least one more 4/5 to get the national AP scholar award next year  Just relax and don’t worry about it. Your grades, extracurriculars, etc. are much more important than your AP scores. Just let it go and focus on things you have control over, like your essays.

Thanks MapleLeaf! I probably overracted, since my ap eng lang score is a shocker to me. The main problem is that I’m worried about what other people think of me, like my (asian) parents, my eng teacher (who/whom i asked a recommendation from), and people at school (who has the same teacher and probably got 5’s)…i guess the scores give me a reason to write better essays…

As it has been discussed here numerous times…AP scores have VER LITTLE to NO bearing on admissions at 99.9% of colleges …including Ivies

ML is exactly right. Your scores are great. National Scholar doesn’t mean squat in college admissions. Colleges will look at whatever you send because they evaluate each application “holistically,” but they really don’t put much weight on AP exams because they know that a lot of kids go to schools that don’t offer many AP classes and it cost a lot of money to take the test. They will look at your transcript first and foremost to see the strength of your schedule and your classroom prowess. They will look at your essays very closely, as well as your teacher recs, SAT1s and SAT2s. They want to look at your ECs to see if you are going to be an active meber of their community.

Only after you are accepted and pay yuor room deposit will they care much about your APs because they will determine, department by department, how much credit you get and whether you are excused from some intro classes.

You are in good shape. Your parents should be very proud of you.
