bad first semester gpa? Will colleges be more forgiving?

Hi guys! I was just wondering if you had a rocky start to your college career...possibly ending with a less than stellar (bad) gpa...will colleges that you would like to transfer to in the future be more forgiving because it was the 1st semester of freshman year? I hope on getting a 4.0 (or realistically a 3.7+) for the next coming semesters.

It depends on if you’re talking about applying now as a soph transfer or next year as a jr transfer. If now, the problem is that they won’t see your 2nd semester grades before making a decision. If for a jr transfer they will have two more semesters of grades to look and and so would be more forgiving of a rough start.

^ I plan on being a junior transfer (60+ credits) So I suppose the upward trend would help me significantly?

They’ll only see 2 more semesters if I’m a jr transfer? I thought for some schools they would see 3 more semesters? Or does that depend on each school’s deadline? :/

I meant this fall semester (w/not-so-good grades) and then this spring and the following fall w/excellent grades :). Generally the spring semester grades after you’ve submitted your application won’t count in the decision.
