Bad first semester GPA

Hi everyone,
I currently attend JHU and am starting to receive final grades. At this point in time, I estimate that I will end with a GPA around 2.8 to 2.9, and I am extremely worried. I am a computer science BS major and am looking to attend graduate school after graduation. Is it bad that I am not getting a GPA over 3.5 first semester of freshman year? I am already considering transferring and am really distressed. Some advice would be great!
Thanks

the first year Is tough for everyone. The more you move forward after first semster or year, the less your grades during that time matter if you get better grades in future semesters then they’ll see an improvement trend. I made a 2.2 my first semester of college and am doing better now.

nah lol everyone does bad the first sem. I had a near one whole point gpa difference between my first and second semester at hop. evaluate what you could have done better and start the next semester fresh. I’d recommend taking an easier course-load, going to mentoring sessions, etc.

College is a big adjustment – living away from home, new routines, new friends, higher expectations academically etc. I would be thinking of settling in, not transferring. Many people do better and better as they progress through their college years. Over the break, think about things you might do a bit differently that could help you improve your performance (ex. study further ahead of time for exams, go to professor’s office hours etc.)
