Bad Fist semester GPA please help

I’m a freshman in a private college, I honestly had high expectations for my first semester, like getting a 3.6-3.7 GPA but now to my surprise i got a 3.25 GPA with 13 credit hours which is above average but still i’m really disappointed. I will major in chemistry, I got an A in chem and a couple of B+ but the class that really hurt my GPA was music i got a B-, so if you can please try to alleviate my anxiousness that would be great

just don’t slack off from now on forward. You still have a lot of time to bring up your GPA

Just keep girding and study! Anything is possible if you put your effort in to it. Go get that A!

There is tons of room to improve a first semester GPA. And don’t be too hard on yourself – the adjustment to college is difficult and you got through it. Keep working hard and seek out help when you need it (ex. if your college has a writing center take advantage of it if you have another English class). And FWIW my D’s first semester grades were close to yours and she ended up graduating cum laude.

Also you just didn’t find out about your GPA – you had the same post a month ago.

Hey guys, a couple of days ago i discovered my GPA is an abominable 3.30 with only 13 credit Hours, i was extremely disappointed. This is the breakdown. Chemistry A Philosophy A English B- Music B- and an inds class B- ( only one credit)

I may pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. In my second semester i’m taking more science classes.
In general, can i increase this horrible GPA.

Thank you for replying, originally it was a 3.25 but one of my professor put in the wrong grade in the system so that grade change bumped me up to a 3.30.

In general, it’s healthiest to focus on the things we can change rather than what we can’t. Continue to work hard and do your best with your current and future classes. That’s what you can shape. Don’t sweat hundredths and tenths of points. You only get to be this age once, enjoy that.

Agree with others, relax. You will occasionally get a bad prof, a class you don’t like, etc. Focus on the positive and moving forward. If you have concerns you could receive a lower grade in a future class, maybe understand what caused the B-. Is it participation, essays, tests? There is help at most colleges for writing for example. If you feel like you aren’t doing well mid-way through a future class (or earlier), schedule to meet with the professor, a tutor etc. This might help alleviate your concerns. Best wishes!
