Bad Freshman Year

I am really worried about my freshman year, for I did terrible. I had a 3.08 gpa and completely slacked off the whole year. I am doing way better this year, as I currently have a 4.0 and am getting involved in clubs and various activities, but my question is...Am I completely ruined as far as going to great college or can I recover? I know that the SAT and ACT along with other things are equally important, but I am extremely distressed over this. Keep in mind I want to go to the best college I possibly can, Stanford, Cornell.
-Any relevant responses are appreciated. Thank you.

A lot of colleges don’t look at your freshman year grades–I know for a fact that Stanford is one of them (however, Stanford looks at your class rank, which may have been damaged freshman year). Also, none of the UCs look at your freshman year grades.

You are fine. I got more or less the same scores that you got freshman year (I’m a sophomore right now). I also got involved in activities but still worry that I won’t be good enough. But that’s just because I always worry. You will definitely do great!
