Bad Grade in Class of My Intended Major

Hi, I am a senior currently applying to college. The UC deadline is quickly approaching, and I have a problem. I really want to be a Biology or Mathematics major. I took Honors and AP Biology in school. I got an A both semester in Honors, but I got a B and C in AP. I got a 4 on the exam and a 740 on the SAT II Subject test. However, since the UC’s are super competitive will it be smart to apply as a different major instead? I was going to apply as a Math major since I got an A in all my math classes and a 5 on the Calc AB exam, but i got a 650 on the Math 2 Subject test. Should I just choose a random major and then switch?

See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/SAT-subject-tests/ to find out if the various UC campuses’ divisions want subject tests.

As a general rule of thumb, I would not put down that I plan to major in a subject that I got a C in. It would be better to go ‘undecided’ or pick something else. The only consideration is whether the school has limits on the number of students it allows in a given major (as is the case at the UCs for some subjects, I believe.) Of course, if they do have limits, you aren’t going to be admitted to that major with a C anyway.
