Thank you so much for your advice, @renaissancedad and @sgopal2.
I am just curious - what is it about me that screams Duke?

@Anonymoose3, what is the exact ethnic origin of your parents?
Interesting, OP went suddenly silent on the above question. I donāt think we will hear back from her again on this thread.
@renaissancedad - My Mother is Egyptian and my Father is Nigerian. Regardless, can we talk about my app and not question the veracity of my statements? I notice CC people doing this all the time, and I always have to wonder what is to be gained from that. Letās just leave that to the adcoms.
If I for some reason lied about URM status on CC literally what in the world would I have gotten from that?
Thank you for the reply. That combination certainly qualifies you as a URM, which is what I had assumed all along.
On March 25, you posted āIām a white female in NYS interested in biomedicineā.
Again in March, you wrote:
Ay, Iām Middle Eastern and you are not allowed to self-identify as African-American (unfortunately) if you are Arab. Yes, itās in Africa, but you have to check āwhiteā.

And again in March:
@iwannabe_Brownā, low-key rant but Arabs must identify as white (Arab is unrecognized as a proper race, which in-of-itself is an issue) despite originating from the African continent, thus (most logically) being African-American.
But the most elite colleges tend to not want to give that advantage to Middle Easterners, so they specify (Do you self-identify as white? (Including MIDDLE EASTERN!).

How does someone involved extensively in MUN with a Nigerian parent not know that Nigeria would qualify them for minority status?
@goingnutsmom - Sorry, I no longer view this conversation as productive but letās leave it to the fact that I was 13-14 and not well-versed in census definitions of race or what would count as what as well as the fact that I always self-identified as middle eastern.
involved extensively in MUN

(Also btw I joined MUN this year :P)
I donāt think, however, that this is very productive to argue about. Letās just leave it to the fact that when I apply to college, Iāll be applying to the adcoms, and itās their job to check if Iām telling the truth - not yours.
Yes, I agree. I wrote āextensivelyā because of the information you yourself provided- you are the president of the MUN club, right? I am hoping that you will represent yourself honestly and that your ethics will guide you in the college application endeavor. Buena suerte.
@goingnutsmom - thank you - I will.
Gotta love these threads/posts when a kid suddenly discovers that they are a URM Hispanic or African American in their senior year.
@goingnutsmom Perhaps we should give her the benefit of the doubt and move on. I stand by my original post that I think sheās an interesting candidate and should do well in the admissions cycle. I hope Iām right.
Agreed. I think we would all caution any applicant from taking the risk of stretching or misrepresenting elements of their background or record. That said, we can only go on the information we have available to us, and while inconsistencies can suggest potential red flags, I donāt think thereās any benefit to continuing to dwell on this.
Do counselor confirm the checking of race?
This will be my last post on this thread. I agree that OP is a very strong applicant of Ivy caliber. She can apply anywhere as URM or ORM and be taken seriously. However, Iām guessing from her previous posts that she wanted to be chanced as white middle eastern and then as white, African American and see what happens. Of course, sheās going to get better results as a URM. Iām sorry, but Iām not buying that sheās AA. And sheās right- she doesnāt have to convince me.
Iām guessing that OP is white, middle eastern and has had a lot of privilege. Her parents are probably highly educated immigrants probably involved in academia/research. Maybe teaching at a medical school or pharmacy school? She has a patent in biomedical field and you need a lot of support for this type of thing. Have seen it happen a lot in my sonās magnet school where there are a ton of college professors kids.
That profile even with URM is different than a minority kid that just doesnāt have the support coming from schools, parents, and mentors.
OP, you are a fantastic candidate and will do great wherever you land. Buena suerte.
Great! Although this thread got a bit derailed, I would like to thank everyone so so much for their input and advice, even when you bickered with each other.
Thanks!!
