Bad grades in prerequisite courses

I am attending UCSB and applied to Berkeley and UCLA. My GPA is a 3.0. I did not do as planned in two of my prerequisite courses. I received a D in Econ 1 (the prof regularly fails 33% of the class) and got a C- in accounting. At this point, I am going to try to appeal my grades. But since these will be submitted for review, I am worried that I have absolutely no chance of ever leaving UCSB. I am actually contemplating not returning as I hate this school. If I retake the classes, whether at UCSB or community college, will admissions see my improved winter grades? By the way, I received a A in Business 10, a Haas prereq course, and a B+ in calculus. I really need some (positive) feedback as I feel like total ****.

do you mind telling us why you hate UCSB?

yeah why do you hate UCSB...

You're applying to Haas?

My experience at the school has not been what I expected out of college. Even though it was not my first choice school, I attended because I did not have an alternate college and because I thought it was a decent place in which to continue my education and then transfer out of. Santa Barbara is not a school or city in which a person can grow and I know for a fact that I am not the only student here who feels this way. This quarter alone in one class, there were at least two other students besides myself who had put in an application to transfer. The social atmosphere does not fit my style as I do not party nor do I like Isla Vista. The teaching has been OK. I can only say that out of the twenty or so professors I have had, only one sticks out in my memory as being really passionate about the subject. He has since moved onto another school not in the UC system. The beach only goes so far and even though I do enjoy it, it does not compensate for a mediocre education. I take my education seriously since I am paying for it. I would like to be happy with not only what I pay for, but with the quality of my education. At this point, I am ready to leave and find another school to finish my degree so I will not look back and regret not having attended a school that I can be proud of.

wow. seems like you really want to get out of there asap. i was seriously considering sb, but ultimately chose Irvine and look, I'm applying for transfer now too. The environment is okay-not what I expected- and some of the profs are really good, but few. Irvine screwed me over by not telling me that my major is unaccredited until now (my 2nd year) and now I am forced to either change majors or transfer.

I read on UCSB's registrar's site that if I repeat the courses at UCSB, my UC GPA will reflect the new repeated grade. Any comments on how this or the bad fall grades will affect my application for transfer?
