The contract says you have to maintain a C average. Is a C- ok or does it have to be >73%. (conventional grading scale)

it has to be a C, since a C is a 2.0 but a C- is a 1.8

one of my suitemates had two C's and C- and shes on academic probation right now becuase her overall gpa is under a 2.0 for the quarter..so she has to raise her grades or she might have to drop out...im not sure how long you have to be on probation for them to kick you out though

wait what about for those who are incoming freshman? C- is okay right?

You mean high school GPA for incoming student? I think it's 3.0 weighted. C- counts as C. But for scholarship or something else for current student then C- is not the same as C.

what kind of scholarships? I don't think you should get ANY scholarships of any kind with that kind of GPA..haha just my .002

So can someone confirm that C- is the same as C for incoming freshmen class Fall 2008.

THe problem is that my chem ap teacher doesn't teach worth a damn but rather, he gives us a bunch of handouts and worksheets, pops popcorn, and proceeds to sit at his desk and watch us do our work. (usually lab stuff)
/sigh.. being a bioe major doesn't help either. haha GG

It is because when you fill out the UC application, it has no room for + or -. But to be sure call the UCSD admission office.

I think you misunderstood my comment. I meant there is a difference between C and C- for calculating UCSD GPA .

yes
C=2.0
C-=1.7

sorry if I sound mean or anything but how are you getting a C- in a class? step it up. And I'm sure a C- is still counted as a C or C+ in hs.

Our chem teacher doesn't freaking teach and he's starting a new policy of not adding any "easy points" because it "inflates our grades." (Heck, he doesn't even give us points for labs anymore either) What my grade basically comes down to are tests which are getting freaking insane. >_<

is this AP chem?

OMG! It's like a chem teacher epidemic across the nation! Our chemistry teachers SUCK!! I can't even believe I passed that class...

For high school student admissions into UCSD you need to maintain a weighted 3.0 averaged over the full senior school year. UC's don't use the minus or plus in admissions for high school students. A grade of C- C or C+ are all treated the same in this circumstance. Once you are an admitted UCSD student taking UC courses they do distinguish between them.

its AP chem but its more like AP home ec

LOL
wild turkey anyone??

Just don't let it drop down to a D and make sure you have an overall weighted 3.0 for your full senior year and you are fine. Remember you can't have any D's or F's in that weighted 3.0.

Sry to bring this topic up again, but after graduation im begining to worry. But i wanted to know how much extra pts they give for honors and AP classes.

E.g

i got an A in my AP gov class so would that be 5 pts? (A=4 + the weighted pts)

you could always just check the UC application website ...

yeah you can weigh up to 8 honors/ap classes as 5 points. the rest are 4. at least i think that's how it worked lol

yes, u get an extra point if u are in honors or ap classes.

for example:

AP Physics C---> 3
AP Calculus B---> 4
AP English A---> 5
AP Gov A---> 5
AP Spanish A---> 5
Avid A---> 4

note..this is NOT my schedule XD

So let me get this right.

I get 2 final report cards, ( fall and spring )
Of all the grades in the final report cards i can weigh 8 classes?

E.G ( These arent my grades either)

FALL

english B
Ap Calc (a) B
Anatomy B
Ap Phy. (a) C
Ap us. gov B

spring

Eng. B
Ap Calc (b) B
Anatomy (b) B
Ap Phy (b) C
Econ B

So would i add the extra pts to all 5 Ap grades i got?
