Bad Senior Year Grade

I am a high school student from China, and I have an early decision offer from Cornell. Now, I am worrying about a problem. I used to work hard, but I got a little bit messed up this semester, meaning I have one, probably two C grades(That is my guess. I have not yet officially seen the transcript. They would not show me for some unknown reasons). My question is: what is the possibility that Cornell rescinds my offer? I know this kind of questions have been posted a lot, but different people have very different opinions. Some say it matters a lot, while others say as long as there are no D's or F's, it is fine. I am not familiar with how things work in America, so please help me out. I am so stressed out recently. Thank you!

the most common answer you will see, and the one you should probably run with:

No Ds or Fs.
Overall unweighted average of 3.0 or higher for the semester.

It depends on the school, but you may be ok. Keep in mind, that they are going to be looking extra carefully at your end of year grades though. And, unfortunately, yes, it does happen here. Don’t freak out though —just do better and know that the odds are still in your favor. Finish strong!

Ok, you messed up on your first semester grades. Make sure your second semester grades match your previous years work. Be the student they expected and they will overlook those first semester grades.

Well…Is there a possibility that they just rescind my offer now and will not look at the grades of next semester? Do they make a decision as soon as they see bad grades or do they wait until the next semester?
(I forgot to say earlier. In China, students have more than 10 classes in one semester. I have around 10 classes this semsester. With the rest being A’s and B’s, A’s the most, do one or two C’s matter a lot?)

Yes, there’s a possibility they’ll rescind your offer.

I think you should write to them. If you have a good excuse (I mean really good) you can give it to them. If you just messed up you can tell them that too. Assure them that you are ready to be the student they accepted, and will have good grades for the 2nd semester. Then do so!

Point out your overall GPA for the semester is going to be above a 3.0.

BTW, what are the Cs in?

Well, as I said before, the school would not show me the transcript for some unknown reasons. That is one thing I can hardly tolerate!!! But the thing is, I cannot do anything about it. So, in this case, even if I have all Fs, I cannot be aware of that. So, the fact that I may have a C or two is my guess. Maybe there are no C’s or worse grades at all.

Is that their policy for all students? or just you?

It is the policy to all students I guess. I did not offend anybody, so I think they did not have to do this for me…

Even if it is the policy to all people, it is not quite reasonable though…
