I barely did anything freshman year because I was busy with an out of school sport that took up 16+ hours a week, but I didn’t achieve very much due to injuries. I have decided to leave the sport, and I have found four ECs (mainly volunteer work) that I am very interested in joining. I heard colleges prefer a 4+ year commitment for ECs, and at this point I will only have one EC (HOSA) that I will be doing all four years. I am wondering if starting a majority of my ECs sophomore year and my lack of achievement freshman year could possibly harm my chances at top colleges.
No. You have a reasonable explanation as to why you didn’t stick with your sport. Make the most of the new opportunities that present themselves in your new clubs. That’s what is going to count.
