I noticed on the BW site that Vicky Bussert is doing a 6 day summer intensive this July. Has she ever done this before and if so has anyone attended?

I know that it has been done in the past. I can't really say if she has been a part of it though. But the fact that she is doing it is great. It is so valuable to work with her, she will teach you so much in such a small amount of time. I think this is the first year that you have to audition to get into the program too. This is a great experience especially for those who can't afford or give up the amount of time needed for the 6+ week camps.

Thanks for replying. My son attended a Masterclass with her in November and was very impressed with her and her students. It put Baldwin Wallace in his top three choices for next year.

My D was also very impressed with Vicki and the talent she saw at the school so now BW is one of her top picks also! Is the summer intensive program for graduating seniors or for juniors?

here is the link for all of the information...

This is an amazing opportunity in my opinion. Basically you will be in the program for a week. You will work with all the faculty in the MT program, including Scott Plate who will coach everyone on their monologues. Scott is an amazing prof. I learned so much from him last semester, and I can't wait for my next 2 with him. Also you will get to work with the best voice teachers the con has to offer. I hope some of you do attend!

To mhappiness, as I understand it the program is for students who are juniors now. I think it is to get them ready to audition in the fall. I can't believe it is coming so quickly.

Has anyone heard about acceptances to the summer program yet?

My S is dying to hear, but hasn't yet. He's a little nervous 'cause he has a confict with performances he can't miss, but he really thinks this Intensive will be the greatest!

I recieved an acceptance email a few days ago, so I think people should hear by now!

My S got his acceptance last week and had to email that he was accepting by yesterday. He is!! Anyone else going? We did a visit there over spring break and sat in on Vicky's freshman MT class. Amazing!

Can anyone tell me about Capital University's Conservatory and their major which seems to combine opera/voice and musical theatre. My daughter has received most of her training H.S. at Umich MYE program and then the Mpulse summer programs 06 and 07. She is not ever going to be a triple threat which is was CCM seems to specialize in--any info at there?

teh60, your query seems misplaced on the Baldwin Wallace thread. Perhaps you can start a new thread in the general MT discussion area?

Rocks! Per my S. (It has to as he's addicted to texting, and has only sent a couple to his GF who is leaving him in Aug. for Tisch!)

Does anyone know yet if there will be a summer intensive for 2008??

My friend went to the summer intensive, and all I have heard since is I'm going to go to BW, BW, to study with Vicky, Vicky, Vicky and end up on Broadway. But guess what! The summer intensive was to teach people to audition for Musical Theatre programs, and so far, these kids are not doing so hot in the audition process! My friend was actually told what songs and monolgues would be good. From what my friend has heard the group that attended the intensive and auditioned in October were mostly waitlisted, and people without BW training in auditioning were chosen(?) It's early though, but if they have it again this year, maybe you should ask for a list of where the people in last summer's program were accepted before you decide whether the training you receive in that week will transfer to real life.

As far as the actual college program, people are working, and that's the desired outcome.

I am one of the Intensive people who were waitlisted, and yes, I wish I had gotten in, and yes, it's still my first choice because I feel the program would be the best fit for me (and I for them).

However, we were told from the very first that BW has an idea of what shows they want to do for the next few years, and if there are no plays to showcase our talents, why would we want to go there? Let's use just one play and one person as an example. If BW was going to do "Little Shop" and Antonio Banderas tried out, he probably would not be chosen, as others would fit the Seymour, Mushnik and Dentist better than Antonio. That is not to say Antonio cannot act and would not be picked up elsewhere, it's just BW would not be beneficial for him.

One thing you will learn at the Intensive is what "type" you are. That is VERY VERY helpful in your career. Now I know what parts to try out for, and what songs and monologues to look for the best demonstrate my aptitude.

Also, being on the wait list at BW is not an automatic death sentence. If you drive a few hours in any direction from BW, you find UMich, CMU, CCM, and Penn State plus others. As BW is a small program and has to actively compete with these biggies, they do go to the waitlist some years, AND I JUST HOPE I'M NUMBER ONE!

I'll post what school I make it into on the big list.

Hi TXKatsmom:

Just recently I had some email correspondance with BW regarding the summer intensive program.

This is a rising senior only program. The dates have not yet been set, nor has the program. I emailed BW theater dept. directly and they were great with getting back to me quickly.

Justoneyes - I don't know about BW's specifically, but the same can be said about many other summer programs - many of them have larger enrollments than their entering class, so it would be impossible to accept everyone just because they attended the summer program.

You have to look at whether what you learn in a summer program is beneficial, not whether it can get you an acceptance. If the summer program is staffed by the people doing the auditioning, it gives you prolonged exposure to them, which can be a positive or a negative. They have longer to judge your work ethic, your dedication, your willingness to accept direction - but that will not necessarily win you a space in their class.

mtman made a couple of excellent points. They are looking for students they want to work with, but are also looking at building a casting pool. And, more and more schools are waitlisting or deferring more students, and giving out fewer immediate acceptances, particularly in very early auditions.

Attending the Summer program does not gaurantee a spot in the program. But that doesnt mean you won't get in either. I do know that people from the summer intensive who auditioned in Oct did get in, so attending the summer intensive can only help your chances for getting into the program. Nothing has been set yet, but I would assume that the summer intensive will happen again next year

mtman
your comment about helping you learn your "type" probably makes me more interested in this summer program than anything else. This is something that we have struggled with with my D, as her physical look does not seem to line up well with how people want to cast her, vocally and personality wise.
Therefore I think she frequently presents a mixed collection of peices.
