Ball State Freshman class

Hi Ball State Bill, it’s decision day. How did your class pan out?

Just emailed all the students yesterday…excellent class!!! 11 men and 11 women from 15 states!!! Tremendously talented group that will be a great addition to the Ball State family. Can’t wait for Orientation!

Congratulation to the incoming MTO class at BSU! My daughter graduated as an MTO on Saturday and is currently in LA for the LA showcase on Monday. I can’t say enough about my daughter’s experience at Ball State. She was exceptionally trained by a superb group of faculty members that cared about her not only as an actor but as a person. All aspects of this program are strong- acting. musical theatre, and dance- there is not a weak link. These students are given tremendous opportunites to meet industry individuals and work with noted actors with many years of training. Muncie is a wonderful midwest town where the kids will become close with their classmates and develop long lasting friendships. These friendships will be important for support and encouragement during the next 4 years. I am absolutely convinced that my daughter received the best training and is ready to move on to professional work. So much I could write.

S had his last High School Showcase yesterday. Over 100 High School and Middle School MT students performed pieces from various shows they produced this year. There were 9 Senior MT majors (performing arts school). Each shared with the audience their plans for next year. S was proud to tell them that he was going to Ball State to continue studying musical theatre. 3 other seniors are going on to study at musical theatre or theatre programs.

I would like to add an update regarding my daughter, one of the new upcoming freshman MT class at Ball State! 1) She is the only one in her senior class, (whether they are theatre students or not) who was accepted and going to college for her BFA in MT - and it is a very large senior class. 2) She is also within her performing arts academy - her high school is the feeder for this academy which covers a number of high schools in the area. Of those academy students, she is only one of two this year, that we know of, who are attending college for their BFA in MT (and were accepted…) 3) She is utterly and completely thrilled beyond all imagination - that whereas in the beginning of the year, she had no idea where the chips would fall, and had her eyes on “name-brand” MT programs, that she has fallen into the arms of what she feels should be the top of the top, award winning, program - BFA in MT - at Ball State University.

She cannot believe her good fortune, that in the array of schools that she chose to audition for, that she had the good sense to put Ball State on that list. She is completely amazed by the level of the training that she witnessed at her visit, along with the friendly and good natured humanity and DIVERSITY of the MT students she met, and of course, the stellar similarly good natured albeit driven, faculty and staff - (shout out to Ms. Adler), and the crowing glory - no other than Ball State Bill!

I can’t say it enough times - they say you end up where you are supposed to be. But she truly feels like she is living a dream, from the moment she met them at her audition, to the campus visit - she has said repeatedly - “these are my people.” And the degree of follow up and excitement shared together with other BSU students, and of course, particularly with others in the new MT freshman class - she has already made friends with them from afar. We cannot believe that she has discovered a program of wonder and exclusivity like this - that she now calls herself a part of. Much contrary to the experience of her 3 older siblings who found themselves “just tossed into college” like a number.

She counts herself as one of the truly joyful “11 plus 11” (ladies and gents) of the MT freshman class who is counting down the days to orientation and college, with glee. Thank you Ball State for being that MT “gem of the Midwest.” Thank God we found you! =D> =D>

Do you guys know if you don’t get into MT if you may attend the school for a different degree. I love the school!

ball state bill ^^

If you’re admitted academically there are plenty of options. BSU offers a BA in Theatrical Studies. Check out the website, where the program description states as follows: “Students not admitted into the Acting or Musical Theatre Options may enter the program under Theatrical Studies and re-audition for the performance program they choose the following fall.” Some students do re-audition; others find the Theatrical Studies major a perfect fit.
There’s also a fine Telecommunications program at Ball State if your interests tend in that direction.

can you double major with musical theatre at ball state? I wanted to apply and this would be helpful…

Broadway bum, the answer is yes. You can attend as a theater studies major and reaudition in the fall for MT. One of my D’s classmates did just that.

Broadway bum I misread your question. I can’t tell you for sure but I think it would be very difficult to double major just based on how busy my D was last year.

You can absolutely attend BSU and major in theatre even if you did not get into the BFA music theatre program! Feel free to private message me if you have further questions.
