I e-mailed the office of undergraduate admissions and the admissions representative for my area, but I'm still worried. Has anyone else done this? What should I do? I've already submitted the application and paid the fee. ahhhhhh!!!!!

Resume’s are annoying anyway. As long as you filled in all your stuff in the common app, you don’t need to submit one. My school kept trying to get me to, but i refused, and got accepted anyway

I would still like to submit mine primarily because my resume contains information about volunteer service and awards that I didn’t have room to include on the common application.

Just call the admissions office after the break. They won’t be looking at applications anyway

Where does it ask for a resume?!?

Mail it in. If you want to make sure they get it/expect it, you can call them, but they’re super busy. Make sure you have plenty of identifying information on there so they know which file to put it in (since you were planning on uploading it to the common app… so make sure your name, address, phone #, and social security # if you put that in your common app are on there). I had to mail it in for schools that didn’t use the common app and it was fine.

At the end of the common app there is a spot to either type additional information or upload a file. This is where a resume would go. It’s not required but it’s a nice way to synthesize your test scores/GPA, extracurriculars, awards, work experience, and volunteer experience on one page for the admissions committee, especially if some of that information did not fit neatly into the structure of the common app. If you already sent your application in without one and feel that it’s now necessary you can always mail the school a paper copy.

Go read the Vandy blog. They tell you how to get stuff to them! It won’t hurt you.
D sent with her application and was accepted. I don’t know if it helped, but we’d do it again. Good luck!

The office is likely closed but some of the overworked Vandy admissions people may be checking in their email boxes before you know it. Requests to attach a new award, a new address, a new letter of reference to a folder are common requests they know how to handle, including the numbers of kids who find typos or lapses in the Common App after submission.

Don’t sweat it. Get it immediately to your A. General Admissions email address as designated at Vandy. B. Copy it to the Attn of your Regional Admissions Rep whose email address you can locate easily on the website.

A resume is not a trivial thing to leave out and I am sure the staff would be happy to connect your attached document to your folder. Some colleges like Rice won’t take anything on paper anymore and like to put documents in folders online, but perhaps a careful read of the Vandy admissions blog will help you know if they read hard copy folders in committee for those students that are up for discussion…look at the Blog entries from December to April last year for more insight on process.

easy fix
Memo with only your name, SSN, applicant to which college of the four in Vandy noted and purpose of attachment via email, copied to the General Admissions intake address and to the Regional Rep serving your area

ie, Attached is my extracurricular and awards summary in the form of a resume which I inexplicably failed to attach to my Common Application submitted on Month Date Year.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and would be grateful if you would kindly place the attached resume in my folder. My resume is an important part of the materials I am submitting for assessment, and I would be so relieved if someone in the office could sent me a return email stating it had been placed in my admissions folder.

I realize this is a holiday week, so if I don’t hear back from you, I will inquire again in January to make sure that my resume got to my folder.

Wow, that is a very detailed and awesome way handling it. Thank you Faline2.
I’ve already e-mailed my local admissions rep (still awaiting a response) and attached my resume. I’m also going to try to fax the resume to the admissions office in the next week. If both of these methods fail, I’ll send an e-mail like the one Faline2 suggested. I’m just glad I made this mistake with a few days to work with before the deadline. Thanks guys; I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to figure it out from here.

Happy holidays! Remember your SSN on every page since they are swamped with documents from all over the USA and world. But they like to do things right and give everyone a fair shake. Remember, significant updates on new awards are also welcome as long as they are noteworthy and set forth in a succinct and clear method until the process is over.
