I just watched this video for the program, and not to sound insensitive or anything but are a large majority of the Student Leaders African American? The video makes it seem like that.

I wouldnāt think race would have any part in the admissions process. It doesnāt ask for race on the application so it would be solely by merit. If there happen to be a large percentage of racial minorities I think it would be by chance (meaning interest, skill, etc) alone.

@raiderade Thatās true I suppose. Either way Iām pumpedā¦to finish my application haha.

Wait, what do you guys mean by binding? Iām also applied to TASP and Iād definitely choose TASP over this - if I get in, that is (though chances are, Iāll be rejected from both).

I just donāt want to get accepted to this and be forced to attend it, if you know what I mean.

By binding I think everyone means that youāll be forced to attend if you are accepted. It didnāt say it was binding any where on the website so I would assume it is not. If it was it would be made very clear.

Oh is that what binding meant? No, I asked the lady on the hotline number and she said you could decline.

Oh okay, I was a little thrown off by the word usage there. I had āyou canāt decline if youāre acceptedā in mind associated with that word, as ābindingā is generally used to describe college early decisions admissions (which means you have to attend if accepted).

Ok, so you guys are submitting multiple recommendations?? Oh no. I figured they only wanted one. Should I?
And do you guys feel like a resume would add a lot to it?

I really donāt think it matters as long as you did filled the app to the best of your ability

I donāt think it matters that much either. I sent a resume and one recommendation, but I would say just go with what you have. If you have a resume, attach it. If you can think you can get another really good rec, do it.

please help!
- When does this program start?
- When do we find out if we get accepted?
- Do we get paid?
- Do we stay at Washington D.C. for 8 weeks, or do we work nearby close to home, and then leave in the middle of July to Washington D.C. for one week, and then come back to work more?

The program starts after your school gets out, but the deadline to apply is Feb. 17.

You would get paid, from what it sounds like, people last year made around 10$/hour working between 30-35 hours a week (I think).

You work in the market closest to where you live. There is a list of markets somewhere, but Iām pretty sure there are 35 different cities. The leadership conference in Washington D.C. is just one week.

Online it says that everybody has to be notified if they got in or not by the end of May, but according to this forum people started getting answers in April.

Hope this helps Good luck!

But how soon after school gets out does it start?

Is it too late to start applying now? Iām in D.C. region, the school has forced the school out since two weeks ago, and I havenāt got contact with my recommender since then. Anybody in D.C. region who is also applying?

Ugh, seven essays.
Anyone else in the Silicon Valley area applying?

@funoffan itās due wednesday. It took me like two hours to sit down and write all the essays. Not too bad.

Can anyone tell me whether itās alright to include activities that arenāt strictly volunteer on the application? Like, Iām German Club vice president. We mostly host little cultural parties and things. What about Gay Straight Alliance? Academic Challenge? Do these count as ācommunity activity?ā

You can put it on a resume if you attach it. Thatās what I did.

Iām applying in the East Bay/Oakland, CA market!

Shoot, now I gotta go change everythingā¦

if so,

why do you think you got in???
did you have tons of community service or were you dedicated to one or two programs?

i just finished my short essays, and i mean short! 1000 characters is nothing!!
and i want to see if i have a chance,

^ Wow! Thank you for telling me itās 1000 characters! I seriously thought it said 1000 words at first. Phew~ That really isnāt a lot at all.
