Bank of America Student Leaders

when does this internship start? the first week of summer?

jenni0z- they donā€™t really give many specifics do theyā€¦? If the summit is July 18th ā€“ 23rd, and thatā€™s one out of the eight weeksā€¦ then i assume it must either be the first week or the last week of the program.

@micah - still doesnā€™t add up. If the summit is indeed the last week, then itā€™s only been 5 weeks. I would assume the summit is in the middleā€¦? that seems like the most realistic choice.

Btw, what market are you applying in?

If anyone was has questions about the internship I participated in the program last year, and would be happy to help out.

yeah idk then jenni0z. And Iā€™m applying in the Hampton Roads, Virginia market. What about you?

I think Iā€™m going to apply in the Detroit marketā€¦do you really need an outrageous amount of community service to get accepted though? I really donā€™t have all that much, but I do already have experience working with kids in Detroit, and it sounds like thatā€™s pretty much what the internship is.

Also, should the recommendation come from an academic teacher? Or can I ask my childcare teacher to write one?

@tessa8578 Iā€™m getting a rec from my teacher at school. But I think you can get your childcare teacher to write one too!
@micah Iā€™m applying in the East Bay/Oakland, CA market. I really do hope I get in (=

Idk but they make it seem like you need this outrageous amountā€¦ =/

Btw are either of you attaching a resume? It says optional but Idk.

Yeah, I attached a resume because I figure it canā€™t hurt. I donā€™t think they will care if you donā€™t, but if you have one, I would send it. I had to make one a few months ago for a school assignment, and just happened to have it on my computer.

I also attached a resume as well!

basketshot500, what was your strongest point in the application last year?

Do you guys think itā€™s too late to start applying for this? I just found out about it today, and I donā€™t know if thereā€™s enough time for my teacher to write a recommendation.

Also, are any of you sending an additional recommendation?

The deadline is Feb. 17. I just found out this weekend, and was worried that it was too short notice for a recommendation as well, but my teacher told me not to worry about and finished it today  as for an additional letter, I kind of want to, but I donā€™t want to push the deadline so I probably wonā€™t.

Iā€™m a bit confused. On page 14 several people asked about transcripts; when I clicked on the ā€œchecklistā€, it explicitly stated that they DO NOT want transcripts.

Iā€™m applying for the Los Angeles, CA market. Are there any areas on you guys (that got accepted) applications that you paid special attention to? thanks!

I still have quite a lot to do for my app ):

 1. Get letters from teachers
 2. Make resume (time permitting)
 3. Finish essay questions

Anyone else applying to the Oakland/East Bay, CA market? I wish I was the only one, of course  haha

Um guys, Iā€™m pretty sure this internship is binding. They say in order to be considered for the program, you need to be able to commit for 8 weeks and attend the conference.

And Iā€™m kind of skeptical of the worth of the whole thing. I havenā€™t really heard of students doing anything spectacular. Sure, participants do things like ā€œwork with kidsā€, ā€œdo serviceā€ and ā€œimprove their communitiesā€, but that is so vague. It doesnā€™t really give a comprehensive idea of the program. I wish there was more information.

Past participants, can you help us applicants out here? What was your experience? What did you like the most? The least? Is there anything you would have improved? How involved were you with your project? How did you ā€œmake a differenceā€? Do you still have contact with the organizations you worked at?

Any descriptive input would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, Iā€™m a little skeptical of the ā€œworthā€ too, but it sounds like you make good money doing it (where I live itā€™s going to be hard to find a job AT ALL over the summer, let alone one that pays $10/hour), plus Iā€™m sure it looks good on college aps, and my family doesnā€™t really have the money to send me to any of the other leadership conferences, or pretty much any summer program like this. So Iā€™m really hoping Iā€™m one of the 5 they pick in my market.

This internship is pretty binding. You have to be committed for 8 weeks or else you canā€™t participate, I called the BoA lady and she said that you would have to back out if your schedule doesnā€™t match up. And yeah the stuff is really vague too, but Iā€™ve been talking to a guy that went to it last year and he said it was really a great experience so might as well.

Does it have to be 8 weeks in a row. I will be gone for 3 weeks and it doesnā€™t conflict with the leadership conference or anything. In addition, I have a 14 week summer vacation. Would this be alright or does it have to be 8 sequential weeks?

@raiderade Iā€™m fairly sure itā€™s 8 consecutive weeks. And you have a long summer zayummmm! What market are you applying to?

Delaware, I may apply anyway since it never does say consecutive weeks. Iā€™ll try to finnagle my way through it if I do in fact get accepted.
