Banks, cash, and access to ATMs

Wondering what some current Vassar students (or parents of Vassar students) do with regard to banking, getting cash, etc.

We live in Ohio, and our bank isn't in the Poughkeepsie area. Do students there open local bank accounts? Are there ATMs either on campus or close to campus? Are there online bank options that you know of that might be beneficial for a student heading to Vassar?

Thanks!

Other people will probably have better ideas and I know some people open accounts at the local bank on Raymond Ave. (has changed names a couple of times since my first son started there in 2008). For us, what has ended up working best, mainly because both my kids used the ATM at the campus center no matter what I thought made sense, was to use an account with a bank at home that reimburses for ATM fees. That way I have easy access to the bank and they don’t pay to use the campus center ATM.

Great. I will investigate that. Thanks.

There is an ATM at the college center, an ATM at the MyMarket (which is right off campus), and an ATM at the local banks (Bank of America and Niagara something). Usually students–if they don’t have a BoA account–just use the local ATM’s. They charge you around $3.50 though, so it’s pretty pricey.
