Bankstatements

I hear international students have to submit bank statements. How much money is enough to have in my bank account? cuz my bank in my country obviously has more money than mine in US..

It's not a competition... they typically ask that for financial purposes only.

If you are not applying for financial aid, your bank accounts have to show a balance equal to or exceeding the estimated cost of attendance for one year. Colleges have to verify that you do indeed have those funds before they may issue you a document that you need to apply for a student visa. Some colleges require the financial documentation right along with the initial application (why bother admitting someone who will be unable to afford a college education / ineligible for a visa?) while others don't want it until after you have paid your enrollment deposit.

If you are applying for aid, you want your bank accounts to show all the money you have. Anything else would be fraud.

What if you currently live in the us, and are not applying for aid? Would I still need to submit a bank statement to show funds fro one year?

yes dddsddddddddd

if I'm applying for aid, do i have to show a balance of equal to my contribution for four years or one year only?

If you are applying for aid, your bank statements have to show all the money you have. Otherwise you are not reporting all the savings you have, which is fraud...

thank you, but I must have made myself unclear in the last post.
what I meant is that: is it correct that the expected family contribution per year must be equal to (bank balance/4)? How about this: a school expects me to demonstrate the ability to contribute at least $8,000 per year, but my family's savings is about $20,000. Does that mean I have to put exactly $5,000 as my annual EFC (which means my chance will be hurt)? Can I put EFC >= $8,000? because I'm hoping to earn some money through campus employment during my subsequent years.

"campus employment during my subsequent years" - Don't include this in your EFC, because the financial aid given by the university WILL include a portion that they expect you to earn.

problem solved, thanks everyone!
