Banneker/Key already sent?

Yes. Instate

another in-state B/K here!

Would the B/Kers mind sharing their stats?

HF, I can’t share my d’s stats, she would be appalled… I will say that they look at the whole app and are not as # driven as you might think. Both of our kids are very strong students but that alone didn’t get them their B/K honors. Think of the whole app, the essays, ECs, SATs, GPA, Class Rank, short answers, everything and anything that communicated to the Adcoms that this kid is REALLY special. Everything counts.

Congratulations Maximus and the rest!! I second what Maximus said about them looking at the whole package. I also posted a while back about how important the interview is. DS told me that the interviewers mentioned how all were qualified for the award, but it was those that stood out during the interview that impressed them the most. Brush up on your interviewing skills if you feel you need to.

Anyone getting this scholarship should be ecstatic at the honor, the opportunity and the financial benefits regardless of getting the full or partial award. My s has mentioned more than once that he has no idea who has what and the school prefers it that way. You are all B/K Scholars now regardless of the interview and final determination of full or partial funding. Go for the full by presenting yourselves well and above all “keep it real” but you should all be very proud, indeed.

Are the emails all sent out at one time, or are they staggered?

I hope they’re staggered, this is disappointing.

Well no one from out of state has gotten one yet I don’t think

meh, Im IS and I still havent gotten anything. Im seriously praying that all of the IS invites havent been sent :(

so i know its really stressful waiting, but its possible that even if you don’t get B/K, you can still get money from a ton of other merit scholarships they have, I don’t quite remember when I got my notification about my scholarship, but I think it was after the B/K decisions went out, so don’t be disappointed yet!!

ps~congrats to everyone who got B/K interviews! crossing my fingers you all get iPhones, my friends got iPod touchs, so maybe you’ll get an upgrade :)

DS got an iPhone last year (actually when he checked in this past fall). The letter said an iTouch, but you got to choose between the two. He is lovin’ his!!

Congratulations again and good luck to those still waiting!

^They gave iPhones to all B/K scholars?! That’s crazy!

Could it be possible that invites/interview dates are grouped by major? In other words, could it be that those of us who have not yet been invited may be invited to a later interview date?..

I mean I’m doing Chemical Engineering. My friend is probably PreMed so probably chem or Bio.

But this is probably wishful thinking at this point. Time to try to get President’s.

Im doing Engineering too…has anyone doing Engineering heard about B/K status? Gah, I seriously hope this is done by college…

Well, its better to have some sort of hope instead of being disappointed lol

I actually talked to someone from the Banneker/Key Scholarship today; apparently there are only two dates, March 2nd and March 5th.

Sportgreet03, they offered either an iPod touch or iPhone to all Banneker/Key kids as part of a pilot program called Mobility Initiative to increase interaction with technology and education. On this year’s invitation for us, there’s a link to information about it, so I’m assuming we’ll get them as well should we go to UMD in the fall.

iPhones? I’d love one, but I have Verizon…

Already have an iTouch. Oh well, I’d still be ecstatic if I got it.

BTW, do all B/K people get them? Or only the full ride ones?

Everyone gets their choice between an iPhone or iTouch. You will have to buy your own AT&T plan for the iPhone and we’re paying about $85.00 a month for it with low minutes, internet, and unlimited texting just for DS.

When you go to your interview they should have a rep there to talk more about it. They did last year. At that time you choose and they will give you more information on the plans, etc.

You pick up the iPhone or iTouch the day you check in to your dorm in the fall. You will have to attend the mobility meetings, but they are not very often. DS was in a news spot for them this past semester! He was able to utilize an application (or whatever the term) to use his iPhone as a clicker instead of purchasing them for certain classes.

If there are only two dates for interviews this year, they may have scaled down the number of B/K’s they are offering. I’ll see what I can find out through DS. I’ve mentioned before, but he’s a B/K recipient, Honors Ambassador, and will be on the B/K panel when you interview in March. He may be able to get some more information when the campus opens up and I will share it.

If the information on the UMD Office of Financial Aid website is still accurate, there are around 400 semifinalists, 150 of whom the full rides will be awarded. Same as previous years.
