I have a question and can’t seem to get a straight answer from UMDCP. D is a freshman with a a full BK. When she started we filled out FAFSA before knowing she would get the full. Now I’m confused, do I need to fill out another FAFSA her sophmore year? UMD says if you take on a certain amount of aid it reduces the BK. Anyone know anything about this??
If you received a full BK, why would you fill out FAFSA? Are you looking for additional FA?
The first time was before she got the full. Now I don’t know if I need to keep doing it.
I’d not bother. If you get FA, UMD will adjust down your merit aid. You cannot get (merit and FA) more than COA amount. I am no FA expert though. I am sure others will chime in.
You said you filed FAFSA last year? Did you then get any federal or state aid? Did the school reduce her BK because if it?
If the school does not require FAFSA for merit and the BK covers everything, then I guess you don’t have to file FAFSA.
If the scholarship covered more than tuition, fees and books (like room and board) then she will have taxable scholarship income.
She accepted grants and a scholarship offered by them and the bk was reduced. She accepted the $$ on their reccomendation. Just don’t want to come up short for next year
