<p>@astrogirl, it’s from the School of Music, which has its own separate application/essay/audition process.</p>

<p>[Strictly speaking, I’m not sure whether it’s classified as a “departmental award” from the university’s point of view (i.e., on the paperwork, I don’t think it says “departmental award” anywhere), but that’s what it seems like to me .]</p>

<p>In any case, I spoke to one of the “Scholarship Coordinators” in the UMd Office of Financial Aid yesterday (about another issue, but I mentioned the no-show music award in passing), and she commented that departmental awards often don’t show up in the system until right before the semester starts.</p>

<p>It all seems so complicated. Good problem to have, in the grand scheme of things, of course!! but still…</p>

<p>Has anyone received the Stamp Banneker Key nomination invite? Curious to know how many get invited to compete and how many are selected from UMD? Any information is appreciated!</p>

<p>My child received the invite. The email said that it was because of the high level of academic achievement and positive interview result. The invite needs to be accepted asap and there will another round of phone interview with the Stamp Foundation. We knew very little about this next level of BK recognition, and hence my question. I guess C should accept and go through the interview and then see what happens.</p>

<p>The invite came via an email on Thursday, and yes, we are in state. My child has accepted the nomination. We will share the experience after the selection process for future applicants’ information.</p>

<p>@tommyguns‌ I believe Stamps Banneker Key are only for those who received the full scholarship, so partials aren’t subject to that nomination.</p>

<p>Astrogirl — why can’t you still do research. I am sure Maryland, like some all other schools, have undergraduate research programs. These don’t have to be BK associated.</p>

<p>Yes I know! @PeterW‌ Sorry! I meant that I wanted to have funds for the internships, etc. that the $5000 from the Stamps Banneker Key cover… Sorry I didn’t clarify! Of course I want and will do research! ;P</p>
