Congrats walkera101!! Great job!

For all who don't get the full B/K.....remember, you are still part of a very select few and should be extremely proud of your accomplishments!

I got the partial. If I got the full, would I have got the dorm even if I never used it (I would commute from home) or would they not allow it? Could I also use the meal plan without living there?

If not, then the partial and full B/K is exactly the same for me. I am in-state and my mom's profession gives a dollar amount which makes up for the rest of the tuition not covered by the partial B/K.

ah i'm so worried, nothing has come in the mail for me yet :(( i live in maryland and a bunch of my friends (one lives 10 minutes away) have all received notification, but nothing for me...

hopefully i'll get something tomorrow.

Oh! I hope I get the notice tomorrow!

Did anyone get notification today? I'm still patiently waiting, so I can decide where I'll go.

wow...im so jealous of the new bk's! u guys get ipods AND housing??? ***...haha...i had 2 apply 2 be an RA to get housing...btw, u guys mite want to consider that...its 10gs a year str8 cash :)

I was surprised myself. It seems to be a relatively new thing colleges are trying to hook students with. Maryland's not the only one. If its not ipods its laptops or something else. And its usually Apple products.

So I'm thinking about applying for the Banneker scholarship, and I was wondering what my chances are. Any advice on improvements or anything would be appreciated

what do you think my chances are for getting an interview?

^I would say don't be surprised if you get an interview, but don't be surprised if don't. You never know with B/K...they only interview about 300 out of the whole applicant pool.

Thanks 4 the info

Any guesses on when we'll hear about Banneker Key nominations for this year?

I think that they will be sent around the third week of feb.

I was just accepted into both Honors Humanities and Gemstone. The Banneker doesn't conflict with these programs, correct? And what chances do I have of getting the Banneker now that I know I was accepted into these programs?

BK is just a scholarship and not a program, nobody can give you chances because you did not provide stats. I would say if you got accepted to Ivies, than you are a probable candidate, if you got deferred than maybe.

Actually I posted my stats on the last page. If you feel like evaluating then take a look. I appreciate it.

Pons, Your stats are very similar to our son's stats. I'd say if your recommendations and essays are good, you stand an excellent chance at the B/K. Good luck!

Seeing as you are also up for UVA scholarship, I'd say definetely. UVA is ranked higher for public colleges, and basically considered an Ivy.
