i'm kind of confused about making payments for our BAR account and for housing... are the two different? or do your housing payments show up on your BAR account? and how do financial aid disbursements work? do you pay your account first and then get financial aid or do you use the financial aid to pay your account? thanks!

yes, i believe both ur housing and tuition show up on ur BAR.
and financial aid for fall quarter 2007 will be disbursed starting sept. 17th, and all fees are due on the 20th. so to be safe, i would pay my fees first, then after the finaid was disbursed, i can always get the refund

Housing does not show up on the bar. You are given reminders about when your housing payment is due and you log onto UCLA's housing site and pay with your credit card or whatever else they accept.

Your financial aid will be disbursed and whatever financial aid you get will be used up to pay for your registration fees ($2000 some odd dollars a semester). For last year, I didn't have to pay that. It would automatically deduct from the financial aid disbursed to me. I'm guessing if the registration cost is like 2000$ and you get 1000$ in aid, you'll have to log into the BAR and pay the remaining 1000$ with a credit card.

If you have left over financial aid after you pay for your registration fee, it will be sent to your bank account via bruin direct or you'll get a check if you didn't set up bruin direct in time. You can use that money to pay your dorm payments.

On a side note, my mom saw that my UCLA BAR bill was like 140$ (for some weird fee) and she told me "Wow, you spent a lot going to a bar."

HAHAHAHAHAHA

i normally dont laugh for such a long duration, but i had to in order to get the 10char

So right now does it actually just say the total fees for fall quarter or how much you can pay at this point? (Maximum Credit Payment Allowed vs. Total Fees / Fall Qtr - Housing)

Yes, that's exactly what you do.

cool. thanks for clearing that up for me!

k, look, you confused me...

You're not allowed to pay more than what you owe after financial aid. And as long as you pay the maximum allowable payment (perhaps $0 if your finaid is enough), it won't matter if the disbursement is late.

wait...is the disbursement on a monthly basis???

cuz i got about 11k in scholarships and im OOS. it says my fall quarter tuition is like 9000 something and the maximum i can pay with credit card is like 7600...does that mean im only getting like 1400 dollars in finaid per quarter??? what happens to the rest of the 11k???

No. It's quarterly basis.

When is my financial aid disbursed to BAR?

Your financial aid is disbursed to BAR 10 days prior to the beginning of the term. You must be enrolled at least ½ time (6 units undergraduates; 4 units graduates) in order for financial aid to be released. Loans will not be disbursed until you have completed promissory note paperwork.

http://www.ursa.ucla.edu and http://www.fao.ucla.edu/calendar.htm

In addition, first time loan borrowers must complete a Debt Management Session with the UCLA Student Loan Services Office 310-825-9864 before their loans are disbursed. Visit the Debt Management Website here.

BLAHBLAHBLAH!

If I am receiving financial aid, do I need to pay fees when I receive my Billing and Receivable (BAR) Statement?

If your financial aid is enough to cover the full cost of your tuition/fees, you do not need to make a payment. Your fees will be paid automatically when your aid is applied to your BAR account.

yea, but that still doesnt say what happens to the rest of the 11k?

Any extra $$ that you have after your tuition/registration is paid off goes to your bank account. Is that what you mean? Just going off what you are saying, the 9k would be covered by the 11k scholarships and the left over 2k would be sent to your bank account or to you via check.

if the 9k is coverd...then why do they still want me to pay a "maximum" of 7.6k??? confusing...

Usually the maximum that you have to pay is an amount that isn't covered by your financial aid. Like if I get charged 42$ for some BS Econ fee, it will say "Max" of 42$.

If it says you can pay 7.6k at the moment, you should just wait until all of your financial aid is disbursed and that should disappear.

yea, but finaid wont be starting to disburse till 17th of sept. and i have to pay all my fees by 20th of sept...

otherwise all my classes will be dropped!!!

Don't worry about it. I was like you, I used to be like OMFG I GET MY AID 3 days BEFORE ITS DUE ***? By the way you make it sound, you have enough to cover your tuition fees so you probably won't even have to manually pay it. It should pay itself if you have over 11k in scholarships and a 9k tuition bill.

yea...but its spread over 3 quarters...so, i will probably have like 3.5k in scholarships this quarter...so i'll still have to pay 5.5k...

by the way, where did you transfer from?

Oh, then in your case, I am not entirely sure. If you pay the max amount now (7.6k), and financial aid pays the rest (1.4k), you should get a direct deposit (bruin direct) in the amount of 3.5k-1.4k. (This is the part I am not sure about)

If you wait until 3 days before the deadline, the 3.5k should be deducted from the 9k tuition cost and it's up to you to pay the remaining.

Aren't you out of state? Just curious why you want to know where I transfered from.

yea, i am, im just curious, damn dude, calm down

and thanks for the help wit finaid, i called and they just updated everything so its all in order...

Lol ***, did I sound angry or something? I didn't mean to come across as aggressive or angry.

I transfered from Pierce College.
