What is the motivation like at Bard? There seemed to be a pervasive air of discussion, but Bard’s reputation seems to be hit- or miss. Obviously with Wellesley there doesn’t seem to be a problem, but I really like Bard and want to make sure I can see myself succeeding there for the next several years. This is such a hard decision! Thoughts?

What is it exactly about Bard that draws you? Why do you feel torn? What does it have that Wellesley doesn’t?

Do you mean “motivation” as in desire to achieve? If so, I’d say the professors are very good at making the subjects intriguing. My daughter is loving some classes I’d never though she would have any interest in. Also, she says her classmates get very excited about what going on, and that makes her excited, and that makes her want to do well.

Well, I guess I am torn between two different worlds here- I love the prestige of Wellesley, and the academic atmosphere and the kind of student it attracts. Bard I love for the music and atmosphere, though am worried that it might not offer the same opportunities, especially for someone who has no idea about a major or potential career field. Bard also felt kind of pretentious/ clique to me…Thoughts? Both schools offered me the same financial aid, distance from home is not a factor for me, love the outdoors and want to get more into rock climbing (which they have at Wellesley, not Bard)

It sounds to me like you love Wellesley - why are you trying to talk yourself out of it? I can’t tell from your posts what you find wrong with it - asides from more music at Bard. And yet you have many concerns about Bard. Even though I love Bard for my son, I say for you - go to Wellesley.

I guess I’m just questioning Bard more because it seems like more of a risk, but one that could pay off in more life/mind altering ways
