Barnard Applicants CO '15?

Ditto with the ACT. I’m taking the SATs ONE LAST TIME in June since I’ll have most of May to just study after APs then use the week after that to do a couple practice ACTs and take them the weekend after.
I don’t have time :frowning: I have SHP at Columbia every Saturday and my courseload is WAY TOO HEAVY. I need a day to just relax so I don’t explode. I’ll probably continue with community service throughout senior year though since I lightened up my course load a little (went from AP Chem + AP Physics B this year to just AP Bio next year). I wish I could count my research as community service since it IS volunteer haha but it’s more like your mentor is doing YOU the favor so I cant :(. I probably have like 100-150 hours of research built up plus probably another 200 after this summer.

EDIT: Those aren’t my only APs… just science is probably the subject I care about most lol.

i know how you feel, i think might go crazy from having classes from mon to sun :frowning: (church class + princeton review) … i have no idea what the ACT schedule is? like when can you take it?
i hate the stupid budget cut from the public schools bc i wanna take ap chem nxt yr but dey’re going to make it 1 period instead of 2! & my school has restriction on how many AP classes you can take -_-

do you know what you want to be (career wise) yet?

You can go on the website. I’m positive there’s an ACT in April and one in June.
UGH BUDGET CUTS IN MY SCHOOL TOO.

I think I want to be a researcher although my dad keeps “suggesting” aka inadvertently pushing for med school. I’m not really sure of anything other than the fact that I will most likely be doing science. Chemistry is my best subject BY FAR and it just sort of clicks for me. I study MAYBE like an hour or two max for chem tests and have only gotten 1 below a 90 the whole year (AP Chem is generally considered the hardest AP in my school along with Euro… which I also enjoyed :P… and there are some seniors failing who were accepted ED into ivies). I feel like we’re spamming this board though. Do you wanna PM aim sn’s or something? I also feel like someone I know may see this :P

lol kinda true i agree, but the thread was startd so we can get to know each other& see wat we want to do & all so its not dat bad  (we’re following directions lol)

i have to go finish APUSH hw ughh so i cant talk now, but feel free to send me a message :D

ughh my other post didn’t go through >.<
What do you want to do later in life?

im currently thinking about being a ob/gyn, i find embryology soooo interestin! :D

wow! That would scare me lol.

I’m glad you came up w/ this idea hopefullybrown15, its nice to meet others w/ the same interests & hopefully (crossing my fingers for all of us!) future Barnardians! I hope we can stick together as the year passes by, as we get closer & closer to becoming seniors and finally applying! :D

What are you guys planning on doing during the summer? College courses, internships, jobs, vacations, summer programs… anything interesting?

hey grls
well i kinda already said what im going to do during the summer, a Summer @Brown program called So You Think You Want to Be a Doctor, its a 3 week program so when i get back in july im going to volunteer at my local hospital,
i need more volunteer hours& being someone interested in the medical feild i feel lik its important to put yourself out there

what are you gals doing?

research at stony brook XD

wow this thread is dying! come on! we gotta keep it up!! :)

loll I’m kind of considering chemical engineering which means I can’t go to Barnard :(. The thing is, someone told me I shouldn’t do chemical engineering if I don’t like physics that much but love chemistry, and should do materials chemistry instead. I didn’t even know there WAS a materials chemistry track and don’t see how that would be much different from chemical engineering other than the fact that I don’t have to take stupid ABET courses.

:( well if thats something you’re considering to do then i guess mayb Barnard isnt for you, although they do seem to have a great science department (i have no clue bout engineering though) just keep in mind (i was once told) roughly 75% of students change their original major!
hey i mean you can still apply and see if you get accepted because you never know you might change your mind! however only do this if you really like Barnard because there are other people dying to go there and taking their spot wont be nice :/

I REALLY like Barnard but there is unfortunately NO ENGINEERING department or major option :(. I’m gonna try for Columbia SEAS and take as many classes as possible at Barnard if I somehow manage to get into an Ivy League engineering school lol.

as for engineering, Barnard college has a 3-2 arrangement with columbia SEAS

And as for science in general, I know Barnard students who have made their own major working with Barnard and Columbia faculty. Opportunities abound.

@monydad, is that almost an automatic in as long as I do well?
Thanks churchismusicmom, so could I basically take all of my non-major courses at Barnard and just take the ABET required ones at SEAS?

Do you think its possible since Columbia is across the street, rather than doing 3 years at Barnard and 2 at Columbia I can just kind of mix classes from both my BA and BS throughout the 5 years?

38: People have posted that it works that way with some other liberal arts colleges that have a 3-2 with SEAS, so perhaps this is the case with Barnard as well. However I have no information, you might want to contact SEAS or Barnard admissions.

39: for 3-2 programs generally the answer would clearly be no, but Barnard and Columbia have such a different relationship, with near seamless cross-enrollment, that maybe this is possible. Again you would need to follow up with the schools themselves.
