@teenwitch omg ahhh this makes me freak out. Do you think we will get decisions by next week??
You think!?! That would be…wow, awesome! I just read somewhere it was the 15th, but the sooner the better i guess!
@mrnwkl @purpledancer999 i’m not 100% sure about this year but last year they sent out an e-mail that decisions would be given on the 11th but it totally depends on their schedule this year! if we get decisions by next week i am gonna pass out but i hope we all do (and get good ones)!! tbh im glad this thread isnt all about our SAT scores and GPAs and stuff we’re just girls supporting other girls it makes me happy
@teenwitch completely agree, and ultimately, it is what Barnard is all about. Glad we are all embodying the spirit of the college that assures we all have something in common. I will pass out too
@teenwitch I can’t do palm or tarot readings (i’m just sales) but one of my co workers might end up teaching me sometime soon! We mostly do tarot/astral stuff but we had a guy who did palm readings…so cool. The X Files are so good, but I understand that feeling of too many shows.
@mrnwkl Oh that’s so neat! Did you find Danzig Baldaev’s work in your research? I don’t own any of his Criminal Tattoo books (yet), but I think they may be of a later era than the 20s (but then again, wouldn’t there be many similar and continuous themes in tattoos?). I love early 20th century art, and the work of the Russian Constructivists in conjuncture with the political and social movements of the era piqued my existing curiosity Sophomore year, when my history teacher said our final papers could be about any historical subject as long as it fit in our time period. Socialist/Totalitarian art in general is endlessly interesting to me, both from an art history and political history perspective. In addition, the father of a friend of mine worked with the State Department’s Eastern European desk at the end of the Cold War…his stories inspired me to start taking Russian last year. I have too many reasons!
I would imagine they would send us an email with the date and time we will hear back, but honestly I have no idea…the other friends I have who applied ED to schools were given an exact date and time when they applied, I wish we did.
has anyone gotten e-mails from barnard lately? is it just me or does barnard send a total of 10 emails and every other college i have expressed a remote interest in sends me 20+ emails per week! they love to leave me hangin
@purpledancer999 That’s awesome!! What got you interested in anthropology?
@mrnwkl The National are excellent - check out Manchester Orchestra and Brick+Mortar too, if you’d like. I think they’re similar-ish.
if you want to feel ~indie~ and hip then listen to gnash on soundcloud. honestly amazing stuff and @xfiles4life i luv The National!!
@teenwitch I have the same questions about the emails, omg. I’ve gotten so few emails from Barnard and so many from other schools I couldn’t care less about. I’ve noticed in general, I get fewer emails from women’s colleges?
@xfiles4life yeah same here!! ive gotten the most from wellesley, tbh but the rest send out 1 once a month! are they all sending out smoke signals that im not picking up on?
@xfiles4life Yes, I did come across him in my research but couldn’t refer to him much since I don’t own his books, and at the beginning didn’t know if I would absolutely love the subject. That is so fascinating, I definitely need to delve a lot more into the subject and the time period in general. I have one other book that is on the police files, which is also fascinating. You need to teach me more about this, because you are definitely a lot more well versed on the time period and the political mindset in Russia at the time. I think you would be extremely successful in it, and most importantly, it is evident you enjoy it
I’ll check out the other two bands! Thanks for the rec. Also, what is your favorite song by The National? (also goes to @teenwitch )
@purpledancer999 Anthropology is so fascinating. I am taking the class this year and also writing a paper that pertains to the subject. What do you love about it?
I agree with all of you. I get a freaky amount of letter and e-mails from Columbia, which I have not shown any interest in, and barely receive anything from Barnard. At the same time, I am glad they don’t bombard us with things. I think they realize we have shown enough interest and the right people will end up applying.
Ah, so psyched to hear from future classmates! Reading through this gets me so excited about being at Barnard with so many smart, engaging girls. Women’s colleges for lyfe, tbh.
Music taste tends indie rock/indie folk (Avett Brothers, Phantom Planet, Fleet Foxes, The Vaccines) + anything I can scream along to in the car.
I love listening to George Ezra and Amy Winehouse! And Adele of course! I am obsessed with the British/uk music scene
@barnardhopeful1 amy winehouse is one of my favorite singers on the planet. i also love the arctic monkeys!! …you all are so cool and like indie music i love indie but i also love justin bieber’s new album and more pop stuff too!!
Idk I think that we’ll find out later than sooner because Barnard has had a lot of technical difficulties this year including setting up alumni interviews but I hope it’s next week!
@teenwitch omg how could I forget about the arctic monkeys! Same here! I listen to anything that’s good! My music taste is like a rainbow haha. I’m a huge fan of drake as well
@barnardhopeful1 drake speaks to my SOUL omg and yeah that’s my music taste in a nutshell haha
oo i didnt know that they were having tech issues! i hope it’s next week too!! everyone cross your fingers and toes :))
I love all types of music. Country, pop rock, and soul are a few of my favorite genres. I love Gavin DeGraw, Jessie J is insanely talented, and Sam Hunt. Ed Sheeran, The Script, and American Authors are a few more. I’m always open to new music, so any suggestions you guys have will be well-received!
