@klingon97 Some of my other schools were both, one or two were FAFSA only. Depending on results this week, I’ll appeal Barnard. Thanks for the advice!
@LikeThis I just re-read some of your earlier posts. You have applied to an incredibly large number of universities. If you are still awaiting results this week, I take it you have also applied to some Ivies. My only concern is whether you have really given much thought to where you want to go (what type of university etc). The Ivies themselves are very different from each other and with 11 others, it seems a bewildering array of choice. Why worry so much about Barnard when you have applied to over a dozen other universities? I just hope you aren’t being driven by “brand name”.
Anyone on this forum accepted to the Manhattan School of Music Lesson Exchange?
@klingon97 I applied to 16 schools, including 3 Ivies, because I need full financial aid and want to attend as academically challenging a college as possible. Given how selective full-need met schools are, I didn’t think it wise to limit the number of schools I applied to.
I wasn’t particularly driven by brand name, although to some varying extent everyone is. For instance, I was accepted to Grinnell- which, while being a fabulous school, is not really a “brand name” to the vast majority of people.
Why worry so much about Barnard? I’d genuinely like to attend. I didn’t apply to any college I wouldn’t genuinely like to attend.
Please PM if you wish to continue the conversation! I wouldn’t want to clog up the thread.
Here is a question I haven’t seen. My dd is deciding between Barnard and UCLA, big cost difference obviously. The Barnard Spring Open House programs appear to only be for students who have accepted admission at Barnard. Are they ever made available to students still deciding – this would include for us the pre-open house for students of color?
@catonyc They’re for all admitted students!
@catonyc They are open houses for “admitted” students. The pre-open house is excellent…my sister went in her year. Lots of interesting activities. Attend if you can.
We attended and it was very informative, now just have to decide if Barnard is worth the dollars over UCLA. UCLA re-visit this weekend!
