Barnard Class of '20 Discussion

rejected rip but i didn’t rlly get my hopes up so that’s good haha

@olivebar noooooo T.T i cry

REEEEEEEEEJECTED (expected it so i’m doing fine, RIP my nyc dreams unless NYU comes through)

@eebee88 I’m with you on the rip nyc dreams unless NYU comes through, but I still hoped because my test scores were at their 75 percentile, so crushed because Barnard was my #1, but ://// anyways, congrats to all of you who were accepted, you guys rock!

Rejected! But hey, Wellesley came thru, so I have no reason to complain!

@schmocklock Sorry, what I meant is that last year the FA tab was activated the next day. It is found on your FA portal. There will also be a letter in your admission package. Again, going by last year, the awards were very near the NPC.

Well, there’s always an option to applying as a transfer  I’m just grateful that season 2 Daredevil came out, Hopefully that cheers me up.

thats amazing!!! i got an 1850 after working really hard which is probably why I got rejected…
hope u got in!

@charmandquark Yeah, now I’m just really hoping that I get into NYU.

D accepted.

Waitlisted

How do you view your financial aid package?

@EarlyAction2020 There will be a letter in the admissions packet you receive. And once it is ready, if you look on the financial aid portal page, there will be a tab marked “awards”.

Financial aid award now up in the portal.

Barnard’s given me by far the worst package out of the 8 schools I’ve been accepted to so far… I wonder if there was a mistake.

@LikeThis Are you referring to merit or need-based financial aid? Barnard does not award merit aid of any kind. If you are referring to need-based FA, I’d contact them. My package was outstanding, the best of any.

@klingon97 I’m referring to need-based FA. Glad to hear that you’ve gotten a good award! Personally, I have a few more outstanding decisions, so I’m going to wait until I get them to see if I’ll bother to appeal Barnard’s award.

@LikeThis Did you runt he Net Price Calculator? Offers tend to trend closely to what the NPC indicates. Note however that Barnard DOES consider home equity. So if you/your parents own a house with a lot of equity, or have significant investments, you will receive a smaller award.

Barnard will only consider an FA appeal if you present new information or can demonstrate that they erred in their evaluation of your application.

@klingon97 Barnard’s offer was close to the NPC, yes, but my family has special circumstances that an NPC doesn’t take into account.

As a reference point, all the other colleges (more than a half dozen of Barnard’s peer schools) that accepted me gave me a $0 EFC. Barnard’s asking for $20k.

@LikeThis Special circumstances are a difficult area. They involve a school’s discretion and its financial aid policies. Were the other schools CSS Profile or FAFSA only? You often can get better offers from FAFSA only schools. I’d email Barnard and let them know, including a copy of some of the other financial aid awards you have received. With luck, they’ll revise your offer but it may be that their FA policy does not let them take into account your special circumstances. At least you have other offers from “peer” institutions. Congrats on those!
