Barnard Class of 2021

Waitlisted. They took 59 people off waitlist last year!!!(don’t ask out of how many lol). Congrats to all who were accepted and good luck to all.

@penngirlpending I got waitlisted for RD today. Can you explain what supplements you sent or anything you did when you got deferred?

what kind of materials should i send for the wait list? and does barnard normally take people off the wait list or should i just consider it a rejection?

Omg got in RD and in SP2!!! lol after getting my first rejection from another college a week ago i really had no expectations

got in rd! I’m so excited - I was waitlisted from Wellesley yesterday so I didn’t think I was getting in

@daisieswhatever Same! Accepted at UCLA but rejected here.

Made a Barnard 2021 waitlist separate post. Don’t know how to link it.

@rosiedaisies @beepboop344 and anyone else who’s been waitlisted to Barnard:

After some research, I found that for the Class of 2020, Barnard offered 1,615 on the waitlist out of 7,071 applicants. Of those 1,615 waitlisted, 1,340 accepted the offer. In the end, 59 were accepted from the waitlist. Now keep in mind that’s a 4.4% acceptance rate. This means you should start to consider other opportunities elsewhere, but you can still accept the waitlist position and try to maximize your full potential of an acceptance.

  1. Accept the waitlist position, assuming Barnard remains one of your top choices, but be aware of the high selectivity and that there is a 95% chance you will have to attend college elsewhere.
  2. Call Admissions to see what is acceptable to send. Some schools would like more information, others won't.
  3. If Admissions says yes, then you can write a wait list letter. It should address your continued interest in Barnard, WHY BARNARD, and any achievements (academic and extracurricular) since January 1st. Be specific and be true to yourself because otherwise you'll blend in with all the others. Finally, state you will enroll if accepted off the wait list and thank admissions for their consideration.
  4. If Admissions agrees to additional materials, a letter of recommendation will do. It'd be best if it addressed your accomplishments since January.
  5. Email or call Admissions or your state representative from time to time---but don't pester Admissions!
  6. Now wait. But I encourage you to look at other colleges. There's a home for everyone, and I'm sure you'll find yours!

Best of luck and PM me if you need any help! :)>-

Accepted! I definitely wasn’t expecting it after getting rejected from Wellesley and reading the acceptance rate this year was the lowest in history, but I’m beyond happy!! Wasn’t accepted into SP2, but congrats to all that did get in! To everyone that was rejected or waitlisted, believe that you’ll make the most of your college experience, regardless of where you end up going. It’s difficult to keep in mind, and easy for me to say in this case, but remember that an upsetting admission doesn’t define your capabilities as a student, or your worth as a person!

@penngirlpending do you work in admissions?

Waitlister here! I already have UVA and Williams though, so I won’t accept a spot.

Is it weird that I haven’t gotten the email yet? I have checked the portal for my decision and it’s there but I have yet to get the email.

@1989swiftie Aww! But congrats on UCLA - that is an amazing accomplishment!

@spanishrice I haven’t received the email either. I saw my acceptance on the portal.

Accepted! Now I have Barnard and Wellesley as two great women’s college options.

Congrats to everyone!
