My daughter has not heard anything via email or snail mail. Could they still be making decisions?
@LostatSea I assume you’re talking about an admissions decision rather than fin aid? Did you check the portal? If you log into the portal there should be a link at the top that says status update. I received an email, but at another school, I got a decision a week ago via portal yet I didn’t and still haven’t received a status update email. Maybe colleges sometimes have errors in sending out status update emails?
I know she checked her e-mail and I thought she checked her portal. I will ask her to make sure she has checked her portal. Thank you!
No problem! I hope she gets accepted! @LostatSea
Thank you!!! Me too!!!
@nycgirl33 @mimimo7890 The issue of BC-CC and CC-BC transfers was addressed this past year at an admissions forum. The answer from both colleges was that such transfers were “exceptionally” rare and would only be approved for compelling ACADEMIC reasons. They stated that the transfer had to be endorsed by the Deans of both Colleges. As you said, both CC and BC said that ordinarily they would “fail to see any reason for a transfer” given that students at both colleges have the access to the same resources.
That said, they did say that CC-BC transfers were occasionally approved in the case of female students who wanted to take advantage of Barnard only programs like Athena Leadership.
does anyone know if there is a barnard groupme?
@2021college2017 there’s definitely a barnard groupme! there’s like 6 of them (1 for all, 1 for gay folks, 1 for POC, etc) if you go to the group’s FB there’ll be links to join!
Have other people been receiving emails from barnard? I just feel its weird that since i got accepted they didn’t send me any emails in comparison to other schools that email you evey week after getting accepted.
@SamE123 Don’t worry-- I haven’t received a single email from them since I got accepted.
Regarding a lack of communication from Barnard: Never fear. After May 1st, you will begin hearing from them a lot. There will be emails regarding housing, medical clearance, courses etc. 99% comes via email. They will keep you busy! Meanwhile, relax and enjoy your Senior Year. You’ve earned it.
Is anyone going to the accepted student event tomorrow? My daughter is flying out on a red eye tonight. I’m sad I can’t go with her but I’m excited for her to come back hopefully closer to a decision.
We attended this past week. Daughter had an excellent visit and decided to not attend the accepted students day of another school. We were pleased with the individual care and impressed with the maturity, wisdom and thoughtfulness of the other accepted students. Best wishes for meaningful experience for your daughter as well.
DD is enroute home. From her texts she was impressed. We would have like to go to the two day program but she had already committed the weekend to another school.
Congrats on your daughters acceptance @worldspirit
To those who are going to barnard- I have read in previous forums that there are students who don’t want to be considered part of cu and then there are some that are “columbia wannabes”. Is this true? What im hoping for is that there is a middle ground, in which Barnard students feel part of cu but see barnard as their home
@samE123 there is definitely a middle ground. Everyone at Barnard has a lot of Barnard pride! It’s the most selective women’s college in the world. It’s hard not to be very proud of your school when going to Barnard. Yes, Barnard is also a part of Columbia U so they feel part of it, but everyone at Barnard chose Barnard for a reason. The curriculum at Barnard is also much more flexible than Columbia College, which everyone at Barnard loves. Plus, being in NYC and at a small women’s liberal arts college as well as a large university is such a unique experience. It’s the best of both worlds – something you wouldn’t necessarily get at Columbia. Everyone at Barnard LOVES Barnard and are super super passionate about it.
@SamE123 By CU wannabes I take it you mean Columbia College wannabes right`? I only ask because all Barnard students are part of CU and identify as such. My D. and N. felt they had a “dual” identity: they were part of a distinctive college (Barnard) and also part of a major research university. Most students (Barnard and Columbia) seem to feel that Barnard is more ‘nurturing’ and supportive than Columbia, perhaps because of its size. It also has some special Women’s leadership programs. I’ve always felt it offers its students the best of all world.
I suppose there could be some Barnard students who don’t want to be part of CU but frankly that would be very hard. Barnard is part of the university and most students take many, if not most, of their courses across the street. And Barnard courses are also coed.
Also, you may find some obnoxious students who have some sort of issue with Barnard students (and vice versa). They are a vanishingly small minority.
@exlibris97 and @NYCGirl33 i appreciate your guys opinions and support. I think i was just listening to the wrong group of people before. Thats what i was hoping barnard stood for, the best of both worlds, in which i can have dual identity. Im very excited to attend barnard next year!
. I think this defines exactly my daughter’s experience, and I think it is only a very small minority of Barnard students who feel or think any other way. I like they way you phrased Barnard as “their home” – because I think the home/work analogy makes a lot of sense.
I’ve literally been looking at Barnard stuff all month… It’s become my dream school! My friend was admitted and is visiting this weekend. She got some Barnard and Columbia swag for me! I’m so worried about not being admitted… I’m applying for Barnard Bound for SURE.
