I’m visiting tomorrow! Can’t wait
@mimimo7890 That’s great! Let us know how it goes
I’m in the same boat with Barnard being one of my top three, I can’t decide! I’m not really expecting to get in but I would be SO happy if I did.
I visited and was a little disappointed. It really seemed to lack a sense of community can anyone let me know if this is correct or just because it was a Friday and there are few classes on Friday
@mimimo7890 Sorry you felt disappointed I didn’t really get a chance to check out the sense of community since when I visited I had a tour and an interview that was right towards the end of my tour, so I left it a bit early. I couldn’t go to an info session because it conflicted with the interview. The girl that gave the tour really seemed to love Barnard and talked about the community being strong, small, and close knit. Then again, she’s just one person and I didn’t get a chance to talk to a bunch of students.
Ok thanks! If I’m admitted I’ll probably visit again too so we’ll see also I feel that this school is extremely liberal and I am more conservative so that makes me nervous. Does any one know how accepting the school is of conservative beliefs ?
@greenteen17 Personally I’m very liberal and progressive, so that’s what I absolutely love about Barnard. Since I’m liberal it also makes really conservative schools a turn off for me so I don’t know I guess it depends how conservative you are and what you want and don’t want in a school. I think the progressiveness comes with being a Women’s college. However, there are definitely conservative students there probably and maybe they have their own community - also I project Barnard women as respectful of different beliefs as long as you are respectful with yours as well. So idk I guess it’s a personal call but I can’t really answer with personal experience!
thank you! @worldprincess
I will say that Barnard is really not that accepting of conservative beliefs. No one will probably outright come out and tell you anything, but it is the most liberal place I’ve ever been in my life. I’ve found that people can be very rude to conflicting views, even when you present them respectfully, and take them as personal attacks to make you out to be the bad guy. For a place that’s supposed to be so accepting, it does seem to me to be accepting of those only with ultra liberal views.
hey guys! i’m a little late to the game but i also applied to barnard regular decision, and it’s one of my top 3 choices so i’m really hoping for the best and counting down the days until we get a decision! this waiting is literally agony tho idk how im gonna deal
@mimimo7890
Here’s an old thread I found about conservative views at Barnard: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/barnard-college/1448951-being-conservative-at-barnard.html
This is a link to Columbia’s Republican student organization: http://columbiarepublicans.com/
I didn’t find a Republican group for Barnard, so I assume Barnard students join Columbia’s.
It appears as though @mayaic4 is a student, so she’d definitely know more than us applicants. That being said, she is one person and people have different experiences.
From what I’ve gathered, if you’re a social conservative at one of the seven sister schools, you probably wouldn’t feel comfortable. I think there are higher percentages of queer students at all female colleges. Thus, if you oppose gay marriage, I suppose it wouldn’t go over well. However, if you’re just fiscally conservative, it may not be as big of a deal. Again, I never attended Barnard, so I can’t say for sure.
Like @worldprincess I’m liberal and progressive and that’s something I like about Barnard. My school is pretty much all conservative and I’m excited to meet people with similar views in college. That being said, if hypothetically we both ended up in Barnard, I wouldn’t avoid you or put you down for your views.
Ok thank you!
Applied to Barnard RD, I have my SP2 Skype interview tomorrow. I’m super nervous… Anyone have any advice as what to expect for that program interview?
Hey @kendizzle, how was the SP2 interview?
hi! i applied ed and was deferred so i’m joining this chat now lol
barnard is my first choice and i love it but as a consequence my hopes are up WAY too high for rd
@kendizzle How was the (SP)2 interview? I have mine coming up. Also, are all (SP)2 applicants offered interviews?
What is SP2?
So what would everyone be majoring in? (This wait is absolutely killing me lol)
I applied as an Econ major
@mimimo7890 omg, I totally feel you. I’m a horrible waiter - I spend a good portion of the day alternately being excited and stressing (“what if my essays suck??”), then I check all the forums of schools I applied to on CC, and sometimes I watch reaction to acceptance videos on YouTube. It’s kind of absurd…
I currently want to double major in neuroscience and political science, and either go into neuroscience or law. But I’m also interested in lots of other things, like physics, literature, and environmental science.
How about you?
