Barnard College Class of 2016 ED Thread

submitted last night!! ahhh so excitedddd

Hi everyone, long time watcher, first time poster.
I had the honor of submitting my ED app around 11:50PM yesterday night (Oh my heart, how it pounded) and almost freaked out when they didn’t accept my credit card payment (it would’ve been done on 11/16, too late!) So I ended up saying “Other Fee Waiver” and it went through. I’m about to call the school later today to see if the payment will go through if I try then. (anyone else have this problem?)

Other than that, I am now in a stomach churning frenzy waiting for the results. I hope waiting around here with you ladies will help alleviate my stress a bit…
29 more days… (sorry I’m a counter, eep!)

Yay to everyone who applied…I wonder when Barnard will release their ED numbers. Hopefully application numbers didn’t go up TOO much!

groceries: Oh my gosh, that’s so stressful! I’m glad everything worked out with your fee! Best of luck!! (:

OK, ladies, I REALLY need your help with something

I got my payment situation fixed! I was looking over my common app today and I noticed that when I uploaded my supplements, I didn’t “clearly identify your name, high school, and date of birth or Social Security number on each page” that the common app stated. I just had the supplement on the page and uploaded it like that. I’m really worried, I called the admissions office and she gave me the admissions assistant’s email and I just emailed her but she hasn’t replied yet. I sent that email around 11AM.

So my question goes out to anyone who’s done the same. Is it really that big of a deal? I’m worried, in all honesty. Also, if anyone’s emailed Symone (snew@barnard.edu), does she take a while to respond? I know she’s probably very busy now that applications are coming up, but I could use the help!

She is indeed probably VERY busy. Give it a day or two.

@groceries: I emailed her about a technical issue I was having, and she got back to me within a few days. She will get back to you soon, perhaps in a couple of days. Everyone in admissions is super busy, so just be patient for now.

Ok, I have a question that could benefit everyone:
How are you getting started on other (GASP!) regular decision applications? I feel like I’m so set on Barnard that I’m having trouble doing other apps. I have these next few weeks before I need to get my stuff in to my counselor (dec. 10, aka 5 days before judgement day–ugh), so I gotta get crackin’. Any tips/suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated :)

I accidentally omitted a word in one of my supplementary essays, but I emailed my regional rep the corrected essay. She responded a few hours later!
Call the admissions office or have your college counselor call.

uhm… CRAP CRAP CRAP… groceries…
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!
i vaguely remember reading that… but for some reason i didn’t do it… what the heck… sdiidfuhasdiofaosiejtiasodjgads. i think i just figured since it’d be compiled onto one big pdf file, i’d be okay or something…? i don’t remember… but IDJFSOAIDSHFIOAUSH. please keep us updated!
i’ll try to figure it out too -_-;; jdsoifh blahhhhhhh.

&sunlitmidnight, so far i’ve applied to 1 rolling (i found out a few days ago i’ve been accepted :D) and 1 EA… and I just went ahead and submitted my application to three other schools that don’t need supplement essays. barnard and my EA school… they’re pretty big reaches for me and i don’t really want to go anywhere other than those two schools… & although i’d REALLY like to get into barnard, i’m bracing myself for the worst D: so i’m just going to go ahead and start my essays for my december deadline schools… :/.
but maybe by a work of God, i won’t have to write anymore… :D.
I DON’T WANNA WRITE ANYMORE ESSAYS! x_x;;

and a question!
did you guys interview? how did it go?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I’ll just be patient for the time being. I’m worried to email my fixed supplements to my regional admissions counselor because I’m just paranoid she’d get the wrong impressions I was rushing on my app or something ._. So if worst comes to worst, I definitely will. I’ll also keep you posted! I feel kinda dumb for forgetting such a simple detail…

I started on my supplements for other colleges now and I’m actually get them done quite quickly and more naturally than I did with Barnard (though I am very very smug about my supplements, I worked hard on those four fat paragraphs), maybe because like the rest of us, I definitely have Barnard on my mind much more. When I find out if I accepted, I’ll probably do a lot of editing (but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.)

@THISISSCARY I had my interview around the first week of November, it went excellent! She and I were talking like fast friends and I felt really comfortable. What was really crazy was that I put Education, Anthropology, and Theology as major interests on my mail card and she commented saying “Wow, you know, this is really rare that I get someone so similar to how I was when I was in Barnard. I came in as an Anthropology Major, came very close to being a Theology Major, and left as an Education Major…” which was totally coincidental. She also kept me there for about 15 minutes beyond the interview time and even wrote down a book that I had talked about because I “made it sound so interesting”. I know it went really well, I just felt it in my bones

To the other apps, omg yes I have so many. I want them ALL done by December 15th, so if I don’t get in I can just send them off. I applied to 4 other EA schools, and I have 10 RD schools, sent in two of them so far.

@THISISSCARY I just got a call from Symone about my application, and she stated that it is absolutely no problem at all. If you check the print preview, your name is at the bottom automatically so she said it was acceptable just like that since they need the information for identification purposes only. She also said in no way would it reflect negatively on my application, content of my supplements, or my character, so that was a big relief. Also, she said she was going to print out my email to put in my file in order to let the admissions officers know that I was concerned and wanted to note them about it. I suggest you do the same, ASAP! According to her, this happens often for other applicants, so it’s really not a big deal at all. Hope I helped :)

I met Symone the two times I visited. She’s so nice and helpful!

So guys, I reported my SAT scores on like October 17th, and they still haven’t been registered as “received” on the tracking site.

I used free score reports and know they take up to 4 weeks, but theyre still not tracked on the site, whereas the SAT score reports I submitted to EA/rolling schools on November 1st have been received by them.

Verdict on this by anyone else?

Thanks!

I’m an international student from Italy, just finished and sent my application last week!
Has anyone gotten their tracking number yet??

Hello darling prospies. :)

A few days ago, I made a tumblr blog in order to answer propsie questions/blog about life as a First Year. If any of you have tumblr, feel free to shoot me a question.

In addition, tracking the Barnard tag always yields interesting results.

Good luck, girls. Don’t stress out too much.

I applied to two schools EA, Barnard, and I already finished one of my regular apps…I have five regular apps to go. I am going to do my essays over Christmas break if I get denied or deferred from Barnard, because most of mine are due between January 1st and 10th.

And, yeah, I interviewed over the summer. It went okay…it was with a student, but a member of the admissions board sat in to “observe the interviewer”, so the dynamic was a little awkward.

It would probably help if I actually post the link…

Another one of the fellow first years has also started her own question/answer blog:

I’ve applied to three rolling schools already - I’ve been accepted to two of them so far and I’m pretty much 99% sure I’ll get into the third one’s Honors College. None of them are my top choices but it’s nice to have something to fall back on. As for non-safeties, I plan on applying to 6 or 7 schools RD should I (GASP!) not get accepted to Barnard ED. Most of my other top choices are small LACs, including two more of the sisters.

an update! i called the admissions office and person on the other line told me not to worry. apparently it would only be a problem if i were sending in my application by mail… :).

&hahaha :D. i’ve been stalking the barnard tags for quite some time now. it’s certainly become more interesting and eventful now that more people like ladystumble and groceries have been posting :).
