Has anyone called to find out the date?
@mw0990 Just my opinion, but I think it’s best to not call them and ask because then it makes you look impatient. They know we’re all dying to see our decision and will let us know when they have everything finalized and I think trying to rush the process won’t reflect positively upon ourselves.
My daughter’s portal now says “Current Financial Aid Year” meaningless???
Where does it say that? @ShannonMH?
@AlmostThere2018 It is a drop down in the top right corner. Do you have it??
@ShannonMH I’ve had it for a while I think we’re reading into it too much
She had a financial aid portal but the wording changed. I hope decision day is Thursday!!
Hey Girls! Thanks @AcademiaSavvy for answering my financial aid question earlier–it helped. I have another question: do you guys think that Wellesley is harder to get into in spite of its higher acceptance rate?
I think acceptance rates can easily be misinterpreted. More people throw their hat in the ring to schools in bigger and more popular cities. Those schools, regardless of their rankings, nearly always have a much larger pool of applicants. What matters for each of us individually is how competitive that group is. So if more people apply, but they don’t have great stats, then that won’t make it harder for us to get in. Really good schools in more rural areas have fewer people applying but those who do apply might be more serious about going there. So I look at acceptance rates, ranking AND the schools mid-50th percent scores as indicators. I haven’t looked at Wellesley, but check those stats. My kid is looking at both Barnard and Smith. Smith is ranked a lot higher but it’s not in NYC and has a smaller pool of applicants and higher acceptance rate. But in the end, the average student has really similar test scores in both schools (mid-50% for ACT = 28-32 for both).
I found the date they announced on twitter. March 23. They are releasing it either March 22 or 24. I doubt they will go beyond that… Good luck everyone!
I don’t see that on Twitter though? @Betudo
@mysticalreverie For the Barnard CO 2021 profile (https://admissions.barnard.edu/sites/default/files/class_of_2021_profile_1.pdf) their SAT Middle 50% (New SAT) is:
SAT Critical Reading 640 — 740
SAT Math 640 — 730
SAT Writing 1300 — 1450
ACT Composite 30 — 33
and 84% of students admitted were in the top 10% of their class. For Wellesley CO 2021 profile (https://www.wellesley.edu/admission/aar/resources/stats) their SAT Middle 50% (New SAT) is
SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 697
SAT Math: 699
ACT Composite: 31
and 80% of students admitted were in the top 10% of their class. So I would say the test scores are kind of similar as I can’t tell exactly, because Barnard’s is a range, but Barnard has a higher percentage of students in the top 10%. Of course this is just academic stats and we don’t have statistics regarding extracurriculars and essays.
=D>
@Betudo Do you mean last years notification date was the 23rd?
You’re right. It has become such a numbers game because the common application has made it much, much easier to apply to more schools. From Barnard entering class of 2012 to 2017, applications went up over 40%, they accepted nominally fewer people, and the enrolled numbers were essentially the same so the stats show that it is much harder to get into, which is undoubtedly correct. The quantitative stats for who matriculates doesn’t tend to change that much, they just have a larger pool of qualified applicants from whom to choose. Schools want more applications so they can project to the world how competitive they are.
@Betudo I’m confused. It sounds like you’re saying March 23, but then you also named March 22 and 24th. Did they release a specific date? Or just sometime this week? Either way…not much longer!
I really need a distraction cause I’m breathing Barnard at this point ;))
Sorry I mean it was released on March 23. So they will release it the 22 or 23, this week. 24 is a Saturday so most likely not… @Happytoapply
I never received an email regarding setting up my FA portal. As far as I know, the portal is only really used for keeping track of the FA documents the college has received. Should I be concerned that Barnard isn’t aware I’m applying for financial aid?
@nynj2022 Did you send the FAFSA and CSS to them? They don’t use iDOC for most things, so you have to fax or mail tax documents to them directly. If you did all that you should be set. If you didn’t, then yes, this may be a problem.
