Barnard College Waitlist Thread 2019

Has anyone heard back as yet? And does anyone know when and how they inform applicants?

I havent heard anything. Ive seen from past threads that they usually call you.

Even international applicants?

Haven’t heard anything either!

They said in the waitlist FAQ that the earliest you will hear back is the second week of May… hopefully that means this week!

@Tanishaaa I read in a blog post that they call international applicants too.

Hoping for the best…was waitlisted at five different schools, but Barnard is by far my number one.
Good luck all!

Oh great! Thank youuu @pogo123

Any news yet? People expect them to reply no earlier than May 15th ughhhhh

Same!! Haven’t heard anything yet !!! Does anyone know if they’re going to use the waitlist this year? AHH i hope they do

Has anyone called admissions yet and seen when/if they plan on using the waitlist? I’m honestly dying over here ahh but I haven’t heard of anyone getting off the waitlist yet, that either means that haven’t started or they aren’t going to start. :frowning:

On the waitlist FAQ sheet they provided it says the earliest we will hear back is the first week of May…and the latestt is mid June…uggghh.

Where has everyone else committed for now?I’m committed to GWU

Does anybody know how many people they normally accept off the waitlist? Im guessing its more than most schools just because I think that alot of people apply to Barnard as a backup, but Im not sure what their enrollment rate was this year. Does anyone know?

???

What in the world makes you think that? It’s one of the most exclusive schools out there…

A quick google search resulted in obtaining the following data from a website called “collegedata”:

Students Offered Wait List 1,207
Students Accepting Wait List Position 635
Students Admitted From Wait List 41

Barnard does not rank their wait list. Each application is re-evaluated. They strongly recommend you make a deposit and plan to attend your second choice school and then if you are offered a spot at Barnard, you have a happy decision to make.

Not sure there’s really a decision to make since the FAQs say they “expect” you to enroll. If people abide by that, then they are going. The waitlist is a yield management tool, after all.

Does anyone know if they’ve started pulling from the wait list yet?

Nothing yet. My daughter was wait listed. But I think Barnard’s commencement is Monday, May 18th. So everyone on campus in the administration offices may be involved in organizing the activities. Maybe even the Admissions office folks are helping out. Just a thought. So, maybe they will turn their attention to the waitlist next week???

Oops, I meant to say that Barnard’s commencement is Sunday, May 17th; and the commencement with Columbia University is Wednesday, May 20th. So everyone on campus may be focused on that. Hopefully, they will start pulling from the wait list next week.

For anyone who has sent in additional information via email, has your regional admissions officer replied to your emails? I’ve sent multiple supplements and I’ve yet to get a response that they’ve been received…is this a bad thing or is it just the sign of a busy admissions officer? I don’t know if i should try to send them to someone else.

They are very busy. I called the admissions office on May 6. She said the reps work remotely and only come to the Barnard campus occasionally. She also said the reps were all traveling at that time. As of May 6, she said they were “still compiling the data from May 1 to see what they have.” She implied that they were still days away from determining whether they would be using their waiting list. And since Barnard’s commencement is tomorrow and Wednesday (with Columbia), I just don’t think anyone will hear until later this coming week.

Thank you so much! That’s very helpful to know.

Fingers crossed for your daughter!

My daughter sent in a supplemetal recommendation and the sender did get an email saying they had received it.
