My stats:
I went to a very prestigious private high school in NYC; I'm not sure what my GPA was there exactly because they never calculated it and didn't rank us, but I usually got B+'s and A-'s, I was a good student but not a phenomenal one or anything. My grades were much better senior year than any of the other years. I only took 1 AP class (Latin) and 1 accelerated class (Precalc AB), both in my senior year.
My SAT scores were 690 math/780 verbal/800 writing
My main extracurricular was theater, I was super involved doing backstage stuff and didn't have time for much else. I was also the president of the knitting club (which didn't entail much but maybe looks nice on paper) and had a job in a knitting shop one summer.

This past year I've been at Sarah Lawrence; I'm taking 19th Century European History, a literature course, and Calculus (fyi we only take 3 classes/year here) and I have about a 3.8 GPA.

also went to a prestigious NYC private school...not sure of exact GPA, but i'm guessing it was around 3.3-3.5

SAT: 2010
extracurriculars: head of an art committee, head of a music club, involved w/several other clubs, and a bunch of community service/internship work over the summers
college GPA: 4.0 first semester...

thanks! well the acceptance package was sent to my house, and my mom was away for the weekend...so i'm not really sure. it was fedexed (i think?) and it must have arrived friday or saturday. haha. sorry to be so vague.

wait, so does Barnard Fedex all of the acceptance letters? I live in an apartment (also in NYC) and sometimes have trouble receiving packages when I'm not home...

+yeah it seems like they do fedex them all. i was talking to my roommate and she mentioned that she has a friend there now and she got her (freshman) acceptance fedexed, too.

Rawr! I just got a letter from my transfer counselor at Barnard saying that my adviser rec letter was never recieved. They said I wouldn't have to reapply next semester but they need the letter to make an official decision. Sadly my adviser is not a particulary nice person, nor do I know him that well since my adviser changed this semester, so he probably won't e-mail me back. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. Blahh. Did anyone else hear yet?

I'm a first year transfer. They e-mailed me around the 2nd week of April to let me know, but my adviser told me that he wouldn't be able to do it til the week of April 8th, so I explained this to them. I figured he just hadn't sent it yet, like he said. So really, it's not Barnard's fault. I don't really know what to do though for a rec letter, as he's not replying to my e-mails or phone calls. Barnard said my application was still valid, so I suppose I'm going to call them and see if there are any alternatives to an Adviser rec.

yes, i think you should talk to the dean. tell him why you want to transfer, have a conversation, and ask them to send in the rec as soon as possible.

your adv. sounds lazy. don't email and call, go see him in person. and tattle on him to the dean.

ahhh i got in!!! this is craziness, its weird but i feel tired all of a sudden. i always thought id be jumping up and down or scream my head off but as soon as i saw the packing slip and recieved the big envelope i didnt even check to see what school it was. i walked the 10 mins to my room without even looking at it i am so weird. then i called my mom im such a dork haha
