I am really confused right now.

I had a really bad high school grades (70 average- with like 45s and 55s in some classes because I did not care about an education back then) and SAT scores that my counselor said were standard of an average student (600 CR 610 M) along with subject tests (590 History and 640 Literature).

I started the Fall 2006 term at a CUNY college, and earned a little over a 3.7 (from 24 credits). I am now at a very good SUNY school for this term and I hate it. I will definitely be leaving so I can be closer to home. I started out with 15 credits but I dropped two courses and have Ws on my transcript for each of them. SO I have 2 classes, one which I will get an A and another I am not so sure about but will probably get a B. Anyway, I am thinking about going back to the CUNY school for the spring, taking as many classes as I can, putting in my best work so I can getting straight-As and applying to Barnard and NYU for the Fall of '08 term.

I think NYU will take me, though I don't know how much emphasis they place on financial situations (i Have a really bad one). I really want to go to Barnard but I think I have a really low shot of getting in (especially with these 2 Ws). Maybe I can write splendid essays? I don't know and I am really at a loss. If I DON'T choose to go to a better school then I will go to another SUNY and I really do not want to do that...

Anyone think I have a shot or have suggestions for another school that is sort of close to the city and has a good education?

Also, I am an English major...
