Barnard supplements: do uploaded essays have to be 1000 characters?

I’m a prospective transfer student and I’m writing my essays (at the last minute, I know!) and I’m having an increasingly hard time keeping it under the 1000 character limit.

However, they don’t really say that the uploaded document must be 1000 characters or less.

I want to play it safe but I’m having a hard time keeping it under 500 words much less 1000 characters. I don’t want to be seen as someone that cannot take direction but there are none! I know that a few characters above 1000 won’t hurt but I seriously have to write more and I don’t want to be reprimanded for it.

Please help?

If I were you, I would address that question to the admissions office. That said, I can tell you that my daughter exceeded the guidelines in her essays for RD last year and did not suffer from it. It could depend on the reviewer, I suppose.
