Hey everyone,
I am a sophomore transfer student and I am currently deciding between Barnard and Brown. I really see pros to both schools and I feel comfortable in NYC. I’d just like to hear your opinions. At Barnard, with all the work, will I really get to take advantage of the city as much as I want to? Is it true that Columbia students really look down on the Barnard girls? Are student-professor relations good? Thanks everyone, I have kind of a dilemma!

My daughter will be attending Barnard as a transfer student in the fall. She was also concerned about potential friction between Barnard and Columbia students. But after contacting several Barnard students, she felt it was pretty much a non-issue. From what I've heard, their students are fairly well-integrated with other Columbia University students. In fact, in classes, nobody will know you attend Barnard unless you tell them.

One of the great things about Barnard is the extra attention and support you'll receive from professors. So as far as student-professor relations go, it's all good. And while the workload isn't considered light, I believe you would still have plenty of time to explore the cultural and social riches of NYC.

Brown is a great school as well. I guess it all comes down to where you see yourself being the happiest. If financial aid isn't an issue, my advice is to go with your gut. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Hey! what did you finally do?
I am planning to do an ED to either Brown or Barnard.
I am not quite sure which one.
I would be great if you could help.

Columbia students don’t look down on Barnard students. Those are only the bitter trolls online. Don’t let this be a deterrent for you if you are really interested in Barnard.

I have no clue what I said that got censored
